An animated film Girls’ Love has topped the Korean independent box office.
According to a translation of The Holy Mother of Yuri from Kyunghyang Shinmun, Geu Yeoreum, or The Summer in the English version, became a box office hit after topping the Korean indie art box office. Based on a best-selling short story by author Choi Eunyoung titled That Summer, the theatrical version is an edited version of a network-animated mini-series that will premiere in 2021. The film has received critical acclaim. positive thanks to emotional storytelling, beautiful and bright colors. as well as the fresh and youthful cartoon style, making it perfect for a summer watch. The film opens on June 7 in theaters across Korea.
Animated by Red Dog Culture House, the mini-series streamed on Laftel from September to October 2021, who also helped crowdfund the series that summer. Laftel also co-produced the seven-episode series, each lasting 10 minutes. Han Jiwon acted as director and director for the mini-series and the stage adaptation.
About Choi Eunyoung’s Summer Story That Year
Choi’s short story That Summer won the 2017 Young Writer Award. The story is about two 18-year-old girls named Yi-gyeong and Suyi, who live in a small town. Yi-gyeong is quiet and mostly keeps to herself. One day, a muscular girl named Suyi enters her world when she throws a soccer ball straight at Yi-gyeong, knocking her glasses off her face. Two unlikely individuals become friends and dream of moving to Seoul together after they graduate, and as they grow closer, Yi-gyeong realizes her feelings for Suyi are more than simply friendship. The movie runs for 61 minutes.
Red Dog Culture House has animated a number of popular works, including providing some animation for BL donghua Heaven Official’s Blessing. The studio has also worked on DreamWorks’ Voltron: Legendary Defender, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, League of Legends: Star Guardian and Dragon Age: Absolution. Red Dog Culture House also founded a webcomics record label called Studio KHIT that has provided artwork for various series, including The Player Who Can’t Level Up and Hanyang Diaries. Along with animation and webcomics, the studio also has a literary subsidiary publishing house that has published Watch How I Revise This Novel, Wedding Bells tovoid Subplot Hell and I’m Take All the S-Rankers.
The Summer is currently unavailable to watch for international fans. There is no announcement for an international release plan.
