To the surprise of many, Chainsaw Man did not take first place. Instead, the top spot in the rankings went to the sports genre work Blue Lock, which received great recognition and praise this year.
In fact, Blue Lock topped Oricon’s 2023 annual sales, with nearly 11 million copies sold between November 2022 and November 2023. The series is often compared to hit films in the same genre as Haikyuu and Slam Dunk.
