Red-Haired Shanks is one of the most mysterious characters in One Piece, as the story has yet to reveal more about his true plans. So far in the series, Shanks has shown one of the greatest displays of power and that's not even the full extent of the Yonko's power.
As seen, Shanks uses Divine Departure, Roger's attack, to defeat Eustass Kidd. However, the manga never delves deeper into how Shanks was able to use the same attack as the late Pirate King.
Divine Departure, also known as Godly Avoidance, is a technique used by Gol D. Roger in his battle with Kozuki Oden. This is a horizontal slash enhanced by infusing Conqueror's Haki into his sword. This attack is strong enough to break both of Oden's swords and send him flying.
Luckily for One Piece fans, Eiichiro Oda answered 10 important questions during Weekly Shonen Jump's Q&A session and he mentioned this technique.
The question has the following content: “The Kamusari (Divine Departure) attack that took down Kid in one hit, was that attack taught by Roger or did Shanks learn it by imitating Roger?”
Oda replied: “He remembered that technique because he always admired Roger. Not everyone in the Roger pirates could imitate it so Shanks' talent was truly amazing.”
One Piece fans discussed Shanks's only known technique, one of them wrote:
“An attack so unique that it doesn't even just cut the opponent, but also makes them fly away unable to fight back. Divine Departure.”
“Shanks admired Roger so much that he put in a lot of effort to learn that move, which I found so sweet and adorable.”another person added.
