Kaiba is a fan-favorite, known for his smug attitude and hilarious quips, but Yu-Gi-Oh! fans who only watched the first anime missed their chance to see his best quote. This may seem surprising given the majority of every entry in Yu-Gi-Oh! franchises are separate from each other, including a whole new cast of characters, but the direct sequel to Yu-Gi-Oh!, GX, is more closely tied to the original show than any other anime and it includes some unforgettable Kaiba guest appearances.
Yu-Gi-Oh! GX takes place after the original series, but its setting allows it to occasionally still feature characters from its predecessor. In fact, the opening episode features Yugi giving the new protagonist, Jaden, a special Kuriboh card. Also, the Duel Academy where Jaden and his friends attended ended up being owned by Kaibacorp, giving Seto a natural excuse for occasional cameos. While the series doesn’t lean too heavily on these cameos and instead focuses on new characters, when old characters do show up, it’s often as impactful as Kaiba’s greatest moment. demonstrated in the series.
Kaiba’s best lines are actually in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX
In the second series of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Jaden received some new cards from space to upgrade her deck. A flashback explains how these cards got there, showing a special show Kaiba made when Jaden was a child. Kaiba challenges children around the world to design their own cards to be sent into space because, in Kaiba’s words, “If there’s intelligent life up there, teach them how to duel!” Of course, the line ends with a great burst of crazy laughter that makes one really feel how amazing this quote is. While this may seem silly, it’s also an incredible amount of versatility for Kaiba as he’s looking for a space program just to spread the card game he so loved to the stars. .
Part of what makes this story so great is how it continues to build on Kaiba’s personality even after the series he featured in has ended. Throughout Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, Kaiba and his company sought to make the Duel Monsters card game a central part of society and bring about the existence of Duel Academy and the pros in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, it looks like he’s succeeded in that goal. But instead of resting on his laurels after this achievement, Kaiba continued to move forward, seeking to expand his mission into unknown regions of space. This elevates Kaiba’s personality to a higher level than in the first series while remaining true to his original personality.
Yu-Gi-Oh fans! Series should give GX a chance
Many fans of Yu-Gi-Oh! anime isn’t as beloved as GX, taking it less seriously and therefore less worth their time (it’s ironic how dark Yu-Gi-Oh! GX can be). Kaiba’s epic line proves that this silliness can actually make these series more interesting and also improve aspects of the original. Original fans Yu-Gi-Oh! Any anime that hasn’t seen GX has to show it, not just to see it Kaibabest sayings, but also to enjoy the quirky sense of grandeur that the series contains.
