Netflix’s One Piece viewership increased in Week 2
In the week following its release, One Piece topped viewership charts in more than 80 countries.
While it didn’t crack the top 10 most-watched shows on Netflix in its first week, it marked a significant improvement over Netflix’s previous attempts at adapting anime to live-action.
Data for the week of September 4-10 shows that the live-action One Piece series continues to dominate, reaching 145.7 million hours watched and attracting 19.3 million viewers.
Initially, many believed that the impressive first week numbers were mainly due to One Piece’s huge fan base.
There is speculation that viewership will drop in the second week as most fans have already seen the series.
Contrary to these expectations, viewership remained stable and even increased slightly. Hours watched increased from 140.1 million to 145.7 million and viewership increased from 18.5 million to 19.3 million.
Although Netflix has yet to officially confirm a second season for the live-action One Piece series, the heads of Tomorrow Studio, the production company behind the show, have hinted that the script for the next season has been prepared.
If Netflix gives the go-ahead and the ongoing writers’ strike ends, we can expect a second season to premiere within the next 12 to 18 months.
As one of Netflix’s most expensive recent products, the live-action series One Piece has received global acclaim.
Both are long-running anime and manga fans as well as new fans who have praised the film for staying true to the source material.
