After the successful release of One Piece live-action season 1 in 2023, the series was quickly confirmed to have a second season.
Production on the live-action One Piece season 2 is currently underway and we already know a bit about the show's new characters, including Tony Tony Chopper.
With Chopper being a reindeer who ate the Hito Hito no Mi Devil Fruit and gained the ability to transform between a normal reindeer and a half-human, half-beast, or full human form, it's understandable that there's a lot of curiosity from fans about how the character will be portrayed in Netflix's One Piece.
Now, the first look at the character has been revealed. During Netflix's Geeked Week, Matt Owens – writer and executive producer of the live-action One Piece film, introduced the first look at Chopper after a behind-the-scenes video was shared with fans.
In a clip showing footage from the script reading for One Piece season 2, actor Inaki Godoy introduces Chopper, but part of his face is obscured. The reindeer of the Straw Hats was asked to attend the script reading for One Piece season 2. Chopper “sits” with other cast and crew members.
What would Chopper look like in One Piece live-action?
In this trailer, Chopper is rendered in CGI. We get to see the back of the reindeer wearing his iconic pink hat in the short shot, and it looks completely blurry. With his horns sticking out of the hat, the rest of Chopper is obscured except for his ears. You can also see the fur on Chopper's antlers and hat.
While it would be nice to see what this little guy looks like and who will be playing him, at least now we know that this version of Chopper will be realized through CGI and not reality. Hopefully the final product will look pretty close to the character's appearance in the manga and anime.
Clearly, the production team at Netflix has gone to great lengths to recreate Chopper, and fans will be thrilled once Chopper's face is fully revealed.
We still don't know who will voice Chopper in Netflix's One Piece, or whether motion capture technology will be used to bring the Straw Hats' doctor to life.
