Warning! Contains spoilers for Fabricant 100 Chapter 20!
a new one Shonen dance manga just introduced one of the magazine’s most brutal moments with a devastating page-turn. That manga is Daisuke Enoshima’s Fabricant 100, which follows the adventures of the immortal child Ashibi and his monstrous companion as they hunt down inhuman Builders. Over its 20+ chapters, it hasn’t been immune to the brutality of its premise, and its latest chapter is no exception.
Chapter 20, translated by Jan Mitsuko Cash, seems like a chilling chapter of life at first. After training with the Fabricant Hunter at Mortsafe, Ashibi and Fabricant 100 were ordered to take a day off to relax. The two meet a farmer that Mortsafe saved and help him take care of his fields. The farmer told them about his family and the peace he had found in Mortsafe and invited them to visit whenever they wanted. Immediately after that moment, readers turn the page to witness the horror of the farmer being slashed by his new enemy Fabricant. The feeling of swoon and stupor when turning the page and watching the sweet moment turn into violent death makes this easily the most brutal page-turning in Shonen Jump. Unfortunately, it could also be a sign that Fabricant 100 won’t be in the magazine for much longer.
Fabricant 100 has become Shonen Jump’s best page
Shonen Jump has gained a brutal reputation in recent years for cutting many of its manga short before they had a chance to fully develop. This led to the idea of Shonen Jump’s “Under 19 Club”, a manga group that hasn’t even reached their 20th chapter. Recently Shonen Jump has relaxed this limit date somewhat, now regularly canceling series in the 20-30 chapter range. Since Fabricant 100 is entering this chapter range with a significant speed boost, this is not good for the series.
This is a huge embarrassment to the world of Fabricant 100 and the story has a lot of potential. Fabricant’s creepy villains in Shonen Jump aren’t always compelling, but they do have interesting abilities. A few have tragic stories attached that show how manga can produce some beautiful and dramatic moments. The Mortsafe protagonist team also has some interesting characters, complete with its own version of Chainsaw Man’s Makima. Turning the page of this latest chapter reveals that Fabricant 100’s mangaka also has masterful control over the manga medium, marking him as a potential star.
Fabricant 100 proves to be one of Shonen Jump’s best new manga
Unfortunately, despite the series’ potential, it can still get the scary ax. However, as Ginka & Glüna’s premature ending of Shonen Jump shows this doesn’t mean the story isn’t worth reading. In fact, if Manufacturer 100 continues to give readers such shocking moments as its brutal page-turning, it could turn out to be one of the Shonen danceits best modern series regardless of whether it’s cropped or not.
