Parasitic life forms that rely on human hosts attempt to grow their power and disrupt society. A group of people wage war against rising evil.

Kodansha USA licensed the original manga in English, describing the plot as follows:
They arrived in silence and darkness. They fell from the sky. They crave human flesh. They are everywhere. They are parasites, alien creatures that must invade — and control — their human hosts to survive. And once infected, they can assume any deadly form they choose: monsters with giant teeth, devils with wings, creatures with blades in their hands. But most choose to hide their lethal intent behind a normal human face. So no one knows their secret – except an ordinary high school student. Shin is fighting for control of his own body against an alien parasite, but can he find a way to warn humanity of the horror to come?
An anime adaptation, titled Parasyte-the maxim-, was animated by Madhouse and directed by Kenichi Shimizu. The series aired from October 2014 to March 2015 with 24 episodes. The film also had a two-part Japanese live-action adaptation, released in 2014 and 2015 respectively.
