Netflix has announced that it will premiere an animated series adaptation of Scott Westerfeld's alternate history novel Leviathan in 2025. The adaptation was confirmed on Netflix's Next on Netflix Animation preview video, which Orange is responsible for animation production for the series.

Christophe Ferreira (Eden character designer) is directing the Leviathan anime adaptation, with Joe Hisaishi contributing original songs to the production. Nobuko Toda (Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045) and Kazuma Jinnouchi (Suzume, RWBY: Ice Queendom) are in charge of composing music.
Justin Leach and Taiki Sakurai are named as executive producers, with Qubic Pictures handling overall production on the project.
Westerfeld's original novel Leviathan was first published on October 6, 2009 and featured illustrations by Keith Thompson. It is part of a trilogy that includes the sequels Behemoth in 2010 and Goliath in 2011.

The main story is set on the brink of war in 1914, and follows a runaway prince and a disguised girl aboard a biotech airship, the Leviathan. Together, they find themselves on the verge of changing history.
