The official Twitter accounts for Takeichi Abaraya’s live-action television series and original series creator Kadzuya Konomoto’s RoOT/Route of Odd Taxi (stylized with a backwards R in the manga “RoOT”) have announced additional cast members. cast for the series on Wednesday.

As previously announced, the film will star Yūmi Kawai as 19-year-old detective Reina and Ryota Bando as the unlucky but optimistic Satō.
Daisuke Kuroda plays Ibusuki, the head of the detective agency where Reina and Satō work. Mary Sara plays Akamichi, the mysterious fixer who aids their investigation. Rio Teramoto plays Kanon, a famous hostess and Reina’s high school friend. Hinako Kikuchi plays a missing high school girl. Reno Nakamura, a member of the real-life idol group Nogizaka46, plays Rui Nikaido, the central singer of the idol trio in the story Mysterious Kiss. Yuki Ito plays Shiho Ichimura, a quiet but ambitious member of Mystery Kiss. Momoko Kobayashi plays the carefree and naive member of Mystery Kiss, Yuki Mitsuya. Hiroyuki Toritani plays Mystery Kiss manager Yamamoto. Yu Inaba plays Rui’s avid fan, Imai, an employee of a variety club.
Atsushi Shinohara plays Odogawa, the main character of the original Odd Taxi anime. Naoko Yoshimoto plays Taeko, the owner of the izakaya that Odogawa frequents. Jirō Masanobu plays Kakihana, a regular customer at Taeko’s izakaya. Kazuhito Tomikawa plays police officer Daimon. Endō Yūtō plays Kabasawa, a college student and fledgling YouTuber. Masaki Miura plays Dobu, a yakuza thug. Eita Okuno plays Yano, a yakuza lieutenant who constantly raps. Kouta Yamaguchi plays Sekiguchi, Yano’s subordinate. Takashi Matsuo plays Donraku Shofutei, a famous rakugo performer. Ikkei Watanabe plays Kuroda, Dobu and Yano’s superior in the yakuza. Atsuhiro Tsuda and Yūsuke of comedy duo Diane reprise their roles in the anime as the ambitious manzai comedy duo Homosapiens. Atsuko Fukuda, Sachiko Nakagome, Shūjirō Masa also play roles in the film.

The RoOT/Route of Odd Taxi manga launched in February 2023 on Big Comic Superior’s Darupana manga website as part of a project of the same name.
The anime Odd Taxi premiered in Japan in April 2021 and aired 13 episodes. Crunchyroll already streams the anime in the West.

The story is about Odokawa, an eccentric, reserved 41-year-old taxi driver who has no relatives and doesn’t relate much to other people. He has conversations with his customers, including a college student who wants to go viral, a nurse who is hiding a secret, an unsuccessful comedian, a rude person on the street, and an emerging idol. These conversations lead him to a girl who has disappeared.
Manga creator Konomoto (Seto Utsumi) wrote the anime. Baku Kinoshita directed the anime with Norio Nitta as assistant director. Kinoshita and Hiromi Nakayama designed the characters. Kōhei Yoshida is the recording director at Pony Canyon Enterprise. PUNPEE VaVa OMSB handled the music and Pony Canyon handled the music production in collaboration with Summit, Inc. PICS and OLM produce the anime. PICS is also credited with the original composition and planning.
The film The Odd Taxi: In the Woods is a “reconstruction” of the anime television series, but it also depicts what happens after the final episode of the anime television series. The film opened in 34 theaters in Japan in April 2022, ranked 10th, and earned 52 million yen (about $4,23,685) in its first weekend. The main cast and staff of the television anime have returned, and ASMIK Ace is distributing. Crunchyroll is streaming the series.
Odd Taxi: Diamond wa Kizutsukanai (Diamonds Will Not Be Damaged), a stage play inspired by the television anime, runs at Otemachi Mitsui Hall in Tokyo from January 25 to 31, 2023 and at Cool Japan Park Osaka TT Hall in Osaka from February 4 to 5, 2023.
