Traumatized by a childhood incident with a friend aside from his love of traditional dolls, aspiring doll-artisan Wakana Gojō spends his days alone, finding solace in the family room of his high school. To Wakana, people like the beautiful Marin Kitagawa, a trendy girl always surrounded by lots of friends, are practically aliens from another world. But when the cheerful—never shy—Marin sees Wakana sewing one day after school, she barges in with the aim of drawing her quiet classmate into her secret hobby: cosplay.
The manga debuted in Square Enix's Young Gangan magazine in January 2018. Square Enix published the manga's 13th compiled book volume on May 24. The “Tenmei” arc of the manga debuted with the 86th chapter on January 6, 2023.
The manga inspired a television anime series that premiered in January 2022 with 12 episodes. Funimation streamed the anime as it aired in Japan and also streamed the English dub. Crunchyroll is also streaming the anime and dubbing it in English. The anime will have a sequel.
