Death Note is considered one of the most successful anime people around the world have ever seen. While the film ends with Light Yagami’s death, some fans believe that Death Parade hints at what happened to him.
The Death Note manga debuted in 2003 and fans were introduced to reapers like Ryuk and main character Light Yagami. Three years later, the popularity of the manga led to an anime being developed and, unsurprisingly, it also attracted a large audience. The plot focuses on the theme of death, revolving around a notebook with the power to kill anyone whose name is on it. With the story ending with Light’s death, we get to see Light’s cameo in another anime called Death Parade and it raises a huge theory about the anime.

Light Yagami makes a cameo in Death Parade
Like Death Note, Death Parade also believes in the idea that there is no heaven or hell. Instead, the show focuses on the arbiters who have the power to decide people’s fate after they die, i.e. whether a person will be reincarnated or their soul will be lost in the void.
In Season 1, Episode 11, Light appeared on the show. Although his name is not stated in the anime, one can notice that the character’s facial features resemble the main character from Death Note. Additionally, his occupation was listed as ‘murderer’. Since Light has killed many people, we believe this description fits the details.
Currently, it is unclear why Light appears in the anime, but it most likely proves the story that heaven or hell do not exist. Given that Light died at the end of the manga, Death Parade implies that his soul was transported to be judged by the arbitrator.
The Death Note manga and anime have two different endings
In the anime, Light is shot several times but escapes when Teru Mikami commits suicide. He eventually collapsed on the stairs and Ryuk ended up writing his name in the Death Note.
Meanwhile, in the manga, Teru does not die. Instead, we see Light break down as he realizes that his end is near. His emotions were so clear that one could see the fear, panic, and stress taking over him. Ultimately, the always calm and strategic Light is seen as a weak, insane individual.
His life ended after Ryuk wrote his name in the Death Note. In the end, Light died while begging to be saved.
Where to watch Death Parade
Death Parade can be streamed on Crunchyroll or Hulu. As of now, the anime only has one season.
The 12-episode series was released in 2015 and as of now, the possibility of a second season seems dim. It’s important to note that, unlike Death Note, Death Parade is based on a short film by Tachikawa, which means there likely isn’t enough content for another installment.
