Kaiju anime No. 8 was voted the most anticipated new movie (not a sequel) of Spring 2024. It accounted for 4.29% of the votes, with 11,913 participants. Next up is Mission: Yozakura Family and the new Spice and Wolf anime reboot. Kaiju No. 8 will be animated by Production IG with creature designs by Khara and will release on April 13. The main voice cast for the Kaiju #8 anime includes Masaya Fukunishi as Kafka Hibino/Kaiju #8, Wataru Kato as Reno Ichikawa, and Asami Seto as Mina Ashiro. The anime will be streamed on X (formerly Twitter) as well as on Crunchyroll. Naoya Matsumoto's manga began serialization in July 2020 on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ and has since been collected into 11 volumes as of December 2023. Viz Media has licensed the series in English in North America and they describe the story:
Kafka hopes to make a pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japanese Self-Defense Forces and fight alongside her. But while she's neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible to join the Self-Defense Forces, he decides to try out for the team again. There's just one problem—he's landed on the Self-Defense Forces' disabled list under the codename Kaiju No. 8.
