Even though their relationship got off to a dramatic start, the relationship between Gray Fullbuster and Juvia Lockser captivated fans with its unique blend of humor, poignancy, and growth. Affectionately known as “Gruvia” to their fans, the two have had many adventures and battles together with some impressive results. When their powers (ice and water) work well together, they can fully support each other in battle, and this also extends to their daily relationship. Although initially shy, Gray eventually comes around and embraces Juvia as his significant other, as evident in the Fairy Tail sequel, 100 Year Quest. In one of the recent episodes of the ongoing anime adaptation, their relationship became even more intense when they faced Metro, one of Aldoron's Divine Seeds.
During the battle, Juvia was captured and after hearing Gray's plan she did not hesitate to completely trust him and go along with it. We all know she is “pushy” and the “more loving” one but what is more clear is that she completely trusts Gray after all this time. She knew that no matter what he did, he would aim to do what was best for them. On his part, Gray tries his best to never betray her trust and he remains a trustworthy presence in her life, even though he doesn't always show it.
Their on-screen chemistry is remarkable. I've rarely seen such a deep and wonderful bond between two characters, especially in a traditional genre action story like Fairy Tail. When we look at the fact that we can see how well they understand each other now, both in their dialogue and their coordinated movements.
Since their first meeting and the latest battle against Metro, almost 15 years have passed. I believe this is one of the deepest and most developed love relationships we have seen in the anime series to date. At first, Gray avoided Juvia, keeping his distance from her. However, over time, he gradually warms up to Juvia, gets to know her better, and learns to trust her enough to let her into his icy heart. It took a long time but after that, love won as always. Now they know each other very well and their feelings are completely similar. Really, each has their own way of expressing their love for each other, but in the end, it's heartwarming to see them go through the adventures of Fairy Tail together.
Their relationship has evolved over nearly a decade and a half of trials, battles, emotions, and personal moments, making their relationship on the 100 Year Quest so powerful and impactful. Stronger impact on fans.
This is why I love Fairy Tail: you have thrilling adventures, great action mixed with fantasy, true love, ups and downs, good comedy perfectly balanced for the moment and more. One thing I'm worried about is whether 100 Year Quest still lives up to the spirit of the original series; not just with Gruvia but in general. And I worry in vain: in my opinion the characters are exactly the same, we still have the funny moments that we used to enjoy. Fan service is also not lacking. You could watch the final episode of Fairy Tail and then continue straight into the first episode of 100 Year Quest without noticing much change, other than the set. Speaking of the new studio, JC Staff, I'm quite pleased with what they have delivered so far. Some fans were dissatisfied, expecting better animation, but on my part, I'm really happy with what they did (episode 17 is a good example). The character development is on track and I'm especially pleased with Gruvia's current position. Hope they keep going in this direction.
