Warning! Contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode #9!
In a shocking twist, Jujutsu Kaisen revealed that main villain Geto isn’t actually who fans think he is. This twist completely revisits everything that happened before this point and poses exciting new mysteries for the future. It also makes defeating the villain much more difficult.
In Episode 9 Part 2, Geto finally made his presence known during the Shibuya Incident by stepping out of the shadows to trap Gojo in the Prison Realm. After the movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and Gojo’s Past delved a little deeper into his motives, fans thought they knew what to expect from him, but they weren’t prepared for his true nature. . After Gojo is shocked and demands to hear the truth about Geto, the sorcerer reveals that he is not Geto at all, but a body snatching witch who has taken control of his body. This is a shocking twist, but it makes some other mysteries make sense, such as Geto’s apparent death at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
Geto of Jujutsu Kaisen no longer has his original brain
This revelation makes fans ask a lot of questions about the new Geto’s plans and motivations. Gojo’s Past arc firmly established Geto’s motives, portraying him as a radical wizard who viewed non-wizards as disgusting apes who needed to be exterminated. This reaches its natural climax in the movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0 when he enacts his plan to wipe out a mass of humans and claim Yuta Rika’s powerful curse for himself. It also seems consistent with the callous disregard for humanity he displayed in the first season of the anime. However, there were also notable differences in how he behaved in the first season which the show has now revealed in a big way.
Now that fans know Geto isn’t the main villain, they know very little about them. It seems like the sorcerer jumped into Geto’s body to more easily trap Gojo in the Prison Realm, so this doesn’t necessarily mean their plans worked out. However, it seems that the body-snatching wizard at least shares his derogatory views on humans, being willing to kill any number of them to achieve these goals (whatever they may be). Also because the corpse-snatching wizard can use Geto’s cursed technique, the danger that Geto represents still exists with this new wizard.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s Shibuya Incident arc will have more details
Upcoming episodes of The Shibuya Incident will likely reveal more about this body-swapping sorcerer. However, the fact that the series committed to such a big twist is a sign that this season will likely have more twists and reveals before it ends. This is exciting because it promises to change the status quo Jujutsu Kaisentakes the series into uncharted territories and sets it apart from other more predictable Shonen fighting series.
