In an interesting reveal, animator Sota Shigetsugu, who participated in the creation Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 17, took to Twitter on November 16, 2023 to share behind-the-scenes tidbits of the battle scene between Sukuna and Mahoraga.
In the tweet, Shigetsugu revealed that a building destroyed in the battle between the two actually existed in Shibuya. However, since there were no interior layouts or photos of the building, he chose an interesting approach.
Instead of trying to create an ideal interior layout, he confessed to using a production floor Jujutsu Kaisen MAPPA’s replacement because it was destroyed in that scene, citing its perfect size.
Shigetsugu noted that this choice made the staff happy, describing it as an inside joke within the team.
This comes after the recent disbandment of the animators Jujutsu Kaisen on social media, shedding light on the poor working conditions at MAPPA and the lack of fair compensation.

It was a little joke or rather an inside joke.
The collapsed building in this scene actually exists in Shibuya, but since I couldn’t find a floor plan or alternatively, I decided to tear down MAPPA’s Jujutsu Kaise production floor because it was the perfect size.
The reception from the staff was very good.
