The popular GeGeGe no Kitarō franchise is getting ready to launch an intriguing new anime titled “GeGeGe no Kitarō ~Kappa no Terraforming,” which is set to grace planetariums and science museums across Japan. , starting from this date September.
The story revolves around Sora Yamamoto, a dedicated employee of JAXA, and his ambitious companion, a kappa named Kaasuke, who both harbor dreams of space exploration. Yamamoto’s aspiration was to elevate the kappa to an astronaut capable of undertaking Mars exploration efforts.

The roles of Sora and Kaasuke are given to Yūsuke Numata and Daisuke Sakaguchi, respectively, with Yukiko Motoyoshi portraying Josephine, and the venerable Toshio Furukawa taking on the role of Nezumi Otoko. Expect the addition of other beloved characters in this series.
The upcoming anime marks the sixth anime of its kind designed to show in the planetarium. It stands as a profound tribute to the multitude of works celebrating Shigeru Mizuki’s 100th birthday. Mizuki, who has left a legacy since his death in 2015 at the age of 93, continues to inspire. Adding to the tributes is the new Akuma Kun anime that will premiere on Netflix on November 9.
Out of four epic projects, the franchise is poised to launch “Kitarō Tanjō: Gegege no Nazo” (Kintarō’s Birth: The Gegege’s Mystery), a riveting animated series. The directing position is taken by Gou Koga, who is recognized for works like “Gegege no Kitarō: Nippon Bakuretsu!!” and “One Piece Episode of Sabo,” while Hiroyuki Yoshino, honored for his contributions to “Macross Frontier” and “World Trigger,” was the creative force behind the script. Notable is Touko Yatabe, tasked with character design, known for contributing to 2018’s GeGeGe no Kitarō third epilogue and as an assistant director on “Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon” A Time”.
The latest incarnation of the GeGeGe no Kitarō anime, the sixth installment in the series, first premiered in April 2018, inheriting the timeframe from Dragon Ball Super. Its 97-episode journey culminated in March 2020. Crunchyroll facilitated global streaming during its initial airing.
The 2018 anime’s main cast, Miyuki Sawashiro and Masako Nozawa, who play Kitarō and Medama Oyaji respectively, are set to reprise their roles for the upcoming film. Notably, Nozawa is considered “Kitarō’s Father” in this version.

Mizuki’s timeless manga series, originally called “Hakaba Kitarō,” premiered in 1959, creating a legacy that includes seven television series, including the Hakaba Kitarō anime, many of animation and a pair of live-action films. At the heart of these stories lies a young boy’s journey in another world between the human realm and the supernatural world.
