The latest Boruto chapter is an explosive one in many ways. This chapter not only provides a glimpse of the highly anticipated Boruto vs Kawaki clash but also features the return of a fan-favorite character, Kurama. This chapter also establishes the connection between Kurama and Himawari.
The last time readers saw Kurama, the tailed beast sacrificed itself after Naruto activated Baryon Mode. He helped Naruto achieve his strongest form by exchanging his own life force. This led to the heartbreaking death of the nine-tailed fox.
Kurama's death was so decisive that its return in Boruto Two Blue Vortex chapter 9 raised a lot of questions. How is Kurama able to return after death and what does it say about the nature of tailed beasts?
How does Kurama return in Boruto Two Blue Vortex?
Kurama's return in Boruto Two Blue Vortex is thanks to Himawari. The girl inherited Bijuu chakra from Naruto, which led to her accidentally releasing Kurama from her body. Because the fox's remaining chakra resides in Himawari, Kurama can return after death.
However, how Himawari was able to inherit Naruto's Bijuu chakra remains a mystery. As of Boruto Two Vortex chapter 9, Kurama is only shown to return in miniature form without any explanation. So, currently there is no concrete answer as to how Himawari inherited Naruto's chakra while Boruto did not.
For Kurama, its return was a shocking turn of events because his death added an important detail to the nature of the tailed beasts. Kurama is a tailed beast, made entirely of chakra. In Naruto, when the history of tailed beasts is revealed, it is also made clear that tailed beasts cannot die. They regenerate after being destroyed.
However, there is an exception to that. A tailed beast can only die if its life source is exhausted. This is exactly what happened to Kurama when Naruto entered the Baryon state. Instead of the powerful form taking away Naruto's life, it eroded Kurama's life force, causing the fox to die forever.
How Kurama overcame this and came back to life remains a mystery. But that doesn't mean there aren't signs of the nine-tailed beast's return. As Naruto's children, there has been a lot of speculation about Boruto and Himawari carrying some Bijuu chakra from their father. While Boruto had no relationship with any tailed beasts, Himawari became the true heir to the tailed beast chakra.
This may be due to genetics, which Himawari inherited from birth. But if that were the case, Naruto would sense chakra within her, and that would make his grief over Kurama's death redundant.
There could be another scenario where Naruto accidentally transferred part of his chakra to his daughter. But the most likely possibility is that Kurama himself stored part of his chakra inside Himawari without Naruto's knowledge. Because Naruto was so preoccupied with Boruto, Kawaki, and the Otsutsukis, he didn't pay attention to the Bijuu chakra inside his young daughter.
This also explains how Kurama addressed Himawari in chapter 9. The revived tailed beast asked her if she knew him, implying that the fox was not surprised by the turn of events. It seems Kurama was completely intentional, supporting the theory that it was definitely the one behind the Bijuu chakra within Himawari.
How Kurama actually comes back to life in Boruto Two Blue Vortex won't be made clear until the next chapter comes out. Chapter 10 will be released in May, giving you plenty of time to familiarize yourself with the Naruto and Boruto universes.
