Not only is the extermination game an arc filled with constant battles and unexpected twists, it also introduces many of the newest characters to the story. When Kenjaku began the Extermination Game, he awakened cursed energy in many non-curse users along with the reincarnated ancient curse users. One of the most prominent users of the awakening curse in Jujutsu Kaisen is Hiromi Higuruma.
Higuruma is introduced in the story as a villain who needs the help of Yuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro. After the fight against Yuji, Hiruguma switched sides, making him an important ally of our heroes. In this article, we will discuss about Hiromi Higuruma in Jujutsu Kaisen, including his past, powers, and power levels.
Needless to say, there will be some Spoilers ahead. Now, let’s start this article by discussing who Higuruma is in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Who is Hiromi Higurumi?
Hiromi Higuruma is a defense attorney who becomes one of the participants in the Killing Game. He awakens his cursed energy when he becomes a participant in the Culling game. Despite being a non-user of curses all his life, he quickly grasped the concept of cursed energy and cursed techniques, and quickly became one of the top players, earning 100 score.
When Megumi and Yuji need 100 points to change the rules of the Extermination Game so Tsumiki Fushiguro doesn’t have to participate in the game anymore, Yuji approaches Higuruma. After their fight, the lawyer realizes Yuji is a good person who wants to protect the weak and decides to help the boy instead.
Past
Formerly turned into a participant in the Killing Game, Higuruma is an excellent defense attorney known for taking on impossibly difficult cases. As an idealistic person, he always wants to help those who are wrongly accused and bring justice to society. However, Higuruma confessed that he doesn’t fight cases of false accusations because he wants to protect the weak or something like that. Rather, he did it because he felt it was right and he couldn’t let things feel wrong.
Over the years, his mental state began to deteriorate in response to the injustice prevalent in society. He gradually lost faith in the justice system and by the time the Killing Game began, he had lost all hope and respect for humanity. It wasn’t until he met Yuji that Higuruma regained his passion for helping people.
Strength and ability
Unlike most of the main characters in the series, Higuruma did not know about the curse for a long time. Only when Kenjaku begins the Killing Game is the cursed energy awakened within Higuruma. Despite knowing about the cursed energy for a short time and having no training whatsoever, the lawyer quickly became proficient in it and even mastered it. expand the areasomething that even many good jujutsu wizards cannot do.
Besides his cursed techniques and territorial expansion, Higuruma’s true strength still lies in his intelligence. He is one of the smartest characters in the series and has extensive knowledge of the law. And while his knowledge of the law seems unimportant in this story of jujutsu witches and cursed souls, it will come in handy in his battle with Ryomen Sukuna.
Technology be damned
While most jujutsu sorcerers and curse users use cursed techniques as their primary method of attack, Higuruma rarely uses them. He often uses the expansion of his domain against his opponents. However, it is necessary to include a cursed technique in a domain expansion for it to work.
Higuruma’s unnamed cursed technique allows him to summon a Shikigami. Thanks to his interest in the law, the Shikigami he summons represent the Goddess of Justice and judge opponents based on their crimes and statements. Shikigami, name is Judgeman, takes the form of a floating shadowy creature with a white face. The Judgeman’s eyes and lips are sewn shut, symbolizing the blind nature of justice.
The Judgeman’s ideas and knowledge of the law come from Higuruma himself, meaning that if Higuruma does not know about a particular law, then neither does the Judgeman. However, Judgeman’s judgment is completely unaffected by Higuruma. The shikigami has its own voice and even a bit of personality but lacks patience.
Expanding the domain: Deadly sentencing
Higuruma’s domain expansion, Sentenced to death, is a broader extension of his cursed technique. When he opened his domain, his opponents were arrested during a courtroom trial, where they were tried by the Judge with Higuruma as the prosecutor. Judgeman automatically knows everything about the opponent, even though the user does not, and will preside over each charge one by one.
An adversary caught in the domain takes on the role of defendant and has three options on how to take action: remain silent, confess, or deny. If the defendant denies the crime, the prosecutor will make rebuttals based on the evidence provided by the Judge. If the defendant is proven guilty, the Judge will make certain judgments based on the severity of the crime.
The harshest sentence, the death penalty, will only be given if the defendant commits a serious crime such as gang murder. A common sentence is Confiscation which leaves the defendant unable to use his curse technique for a period of time. Deadly Sentence is a unique domain extension and its purpose is not quite as offensive as most domain names.
Power level
Higuma is a powerful and notable character among Jujutsu Kaisen’s large cast. His mastery of cursed energy in such a short time is unprecedented. However, if we compare his power level with other main characters, the results can be surprising.
When it comes to the power of cursed techniques, Higuruma is clearly at a disadvantage as neither his cursed technique nor his domain is meant to attack. His physical combat skills also don’t help him much against opponents like Yuta Okkotsu, Kinji Hakari, and not to mention Sukuna.
Currently, he is one of the less powerful members of the group; stronger than these Panda, Atsuya Kusakabe and even Mei Mei, but definitely weaker than Yuta, Hakari and Maki Zenin.
Conclude
We end our discussion of Hiromi Higuruma in Jujutsu Kaisen here. In the present, Higuruma has formed a tag team with Yuji, and the two are arrested during a courtroom trial in Deadly Sentence with Sukuna, where the Cursed King is accused of mass murder in Shibuya. What happens next is something we’re all excited to see.
