Hideaki Sorachi, manga creator Gintama, is one of 33 manga artists who drew a special illustration to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Rumiko Takahashi’s iconic Urusei Yatsura manga. However, Sorachi, being an eccentric author, does more than just draw illustrations; instead he took the opportunity to ‘apologise’ for being a ‘minor plagiarism’ author.
Comment mentions how he was inspired by Rumiko Takahashi’s short manga series – Rumic World. Sorachi says he made money in other magazines while trying to imitate it and now he has to receive his punishment.
“While being influenced by Rumic World, I, a petty plagiarism author, was earning change in other magazines. I came on Sunday to receive the punishment. Not just 45 years like Rum-chan, but in 50, 100 years, please continue to punish our useless Atarus all over Japan,” Sorachi said in his comment.
The Sunday in his comment refers to Shonen’s weekly Sunday because the special illustrations were published in issue 39 of the magazine.
Sorachi’s special illustration featuring the character Gintama Elizabeth holds a sign that says “Sorry for Plagiarism” and the character’Ranma 1/2’Genma Saotome is apologizing, along with Lum, who is the main focus.
