Summary
Goku and Chi-Chi’s marriage is confusingly redefined, as it is revealed in Dragon Ball Super that they have never kissed. The fact that Goku does not know what a kiss is even though he is married and has children is considered strange by Vegeta, asserting that ‘not kissing’ is not a cultural thing for Saiyans. Overall, it doesn’t make sense for Goku to not know what a kiss is, which is why this line in Dragon Ball Super is so odd.
Goku and Chi-Chi have always had a strange relationship in Dragon Ball canon, but Super Dragon Ball just makes it weird. With just one line of dialogue, Goku and Chi-Chi’s entire marriage – including and especially the fact that they are parents – is completely redefined for the worse and only makes every Dragon Ball fan When I heard it I was confused.
Goku and Chi-Chi’s relationship started in the early chapters of Dragon Ball, when they were both just kids trying to find Master Roshi to help put out the fire on Volcano. During their time together, Goku accidentally touches Chi-Chi inappropriately, which Chi-Chi misinterprets as a romantic advance. From that moment on – in Chi-Chi’s mind, anyway – the two were destined to be together.
Goku and Chi-Chi first met in Dragon Ball episode 8, and they got engaged in Dragon Ball episode 137!
After many years of not seeing each other, Chi-Chi and Goku finally made their ‘relationship’ official during the World Martial Arts Tournament – the first (and last) tournament of which Chi-Chi herself was a part. competitor. At this point, the two were engaged and before long, these two love birds were pregnant with their first child, Gohan. The romantic history between these two has been well documented, but according to Goku, the two seem to have skipped an important step in expressing their feelings for each other, which is Goku and Chi-Chi have never even kissed.

Dragon Ball Super episode 60 “Into the future again, Goku Black’s true identity is revealed!”
In Dragon Ball Super’s “Future” Trunks Saga, Goku and Vegeta travel with Future Trunks to his alternate timeline, when they agree to help him fight the mysterious Goku Black. In this desolate future, Trunks, Goku, and Vegeta find themselves with remaining human resistance, where Trunks reunites with Mai, whom he thought was dead. Although not dead, Mai was so seriously injured that she could not chew a Senzu bean. So Trunks chewed the bean and gave it to Mai mouth to mouth, which naturally turned into a passionate kiss when Mai fully recovered.
Upon seeing this, a confused Goku asked Vegeta why Trunks and Mai were ‘putting their mouths together’, seemingly not knowing what kissing was. Vegeta scolds Goku about this, pointing out that he is married with children and that he should know what a kiss is. However, Goku claims that he has never done that before in his life.
Vegeta confirms that ‘No kissing’ isn’t a Saiyan thing, Goku is just weird
Knowing that Goku has never kissed anyone before, Chi-Chi or otherwise, Dragon Ball fans may conclude that perhaps kissing isn’t something Saiyans naturally do. That would explain how Goku and Chi-Chi would have children and be happily married despite never kissing, because that’s something Goku could never do. However, the fact that Vegeta knows what a kiss is and is shocked to learn that Goku doesn’t do the same, completely throws that theory out the window, especially since Vegeta actually remembers the Saiyan culture before the race. His clan became extinct.
In fact, there is no real explanation that makes sense here. While the easy answer is that this was supposed to be a one-off joke, that’s not a convincing enough explanation for a lore-heavy series like Dragon Ball. So that’s all Super Dragon Ball complete with this one weird line that redefines Goku and Chi-Chi’s relationship for the worse, because honestly it doesn’t make any sense. Goku won’t know what a kiss is.
