Bucchigiri Episode 11 Review: Another episode has been scrapped from this unusual anime and we're still in the era where Matakara is the bad guy. Read on to learn more.
Overview of Bucchigiri Volume 11
Bucchigiri?! is a new anime series and an original anime from MAPPA, the studio behind popular shows like Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen. The movie is scheduled to come out this January, so it's almost here!
The series has been described as a return to the thug/Yanki anime genre, which was popular in the late 90s and early 2000s with shows like Cromartie High School and Great Teacher Onizuka.
Directed by Hiroko Utsumi and story by Taku Kishimoto, the series also includes music composition by Michiru Ōshima, while character design is by Takahiro Kagami.
The opening theme, “Sesame” by Kroi, sets the tone and the ending theme will be Love je t'aime (らぶじゅてーむ)” by Mahiru Coda (甲田まひる).
I've tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I have to cover in order to give a proper response.
Bucchigiri episode 11 review and summary: Matakara's Revenge
We are very close to the final match, and thanks to that, many things are gradually becoming clear. In this episode, we got a glimpse of what could happen to Senya and Ichiya. Apparently, after a while, the practice of the Honki art became greatly distrusted and was banned from the time of Senya and Ichiya. Those caught practicing this art form were hunted down and sentenced to death. In such a scenario, Ichiya holds an unknown grudge against his friend, and while challenging Senya to a duel, both are shot dead.
This part is unclear, and the reason behind Ichiya's resentment towards Senya is quite vague. What I can understand is that Ichiya is angry at Senya because he didn't fight his best. But that fact, again, was not enough to foster a resentment so strong that Ichiya would carry that hatred with him into his next life. I hope there is more to this than just the basic argument of “You have been dishonest with yourself and me.”
Back in the present timeline, Matakara has, for lack of a better word, gone completely insane. He is not controlled by Ichiya and has caused enough chaos on his own. Matakara is actively picking up fights left and right, and the person on his current strike list is the person he has respected the longest. He certainly has no remorse for his wrongdoings, even creating a false definition of power to satisfy himself. Essentially, Matakara is looking for a way to become stronger, but the way he's doing it isn't right at all.
I thought things wouldn't go well for Arajin in this episode, but it didn't. Thankfully, Arajin was finally bold enough to confirm that he was now motivated enough to fight Matakara in full force. He is still a very indecisive person and not someone you can rely on, but since he is the main character we can expect a sudden change in his personality.
Verdict
Today's episode was exactly what I thought it would be. The script and character developments are predictable and you know what will happen in the next episode. It was clear that Matakara would only stop his madness after receiving a heavy blow from Arajin. And like I said before, one of the best saving graces of this anime is its beautifully choreographed battles, so we can look forward to that. If you love this type of anime, you can definitely watch this movie.
