There is no doubt that the manga industry today is booming and making publishers a lot of money, despite billions of dollars in losses due to piracy. With technology and the increasingly developed internet, accessing and reading comics has become extremely easy.
There are even online comics published on the same day as the Japanese version in many different languages. It can be said that comics are one of the most profitable genres in the book world today.
Recently, Oricon – an organization from Japan, released a new report showing which manga series are the best-selling in 2024.
As you can see below, Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen tops the list, followed by Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.
Best-selling manga of 2024 (so far)
– Jujutsu Kaisen – 4,630,685 copies
– Frieren: Beyond Journey's End – 4,350,795 copies
– The Apothecary Diaries – 3,790,236 copies
– One Piece – 2,189,898 copies
– Blue Lock – 2,149,862 copies
– Haikyuu – 1,863,720 copies
– Spy x Family – 1,607,838 copies
– Kingdom – 1,607,465 copies
– Mashle – 1,275,234 copies
– My Hero Academia – 1,265,073 copies
While the Jujutsu Kaisen manga's story is gradually coming to an end, Frieren's anime adaptation is a huge success, even winning first place on MyAnimelist.
Next, we have The Apothecary Diaries series which is also winning the hearts of readers, selling a million more copies than Eiichiro Oda's One Piece. It's worth noting that this manga sales success has a lot to do with the new anime adaptations that came out last year and have boosted the company's manga series sales.
Speaking of specific volumes, volume 25 of Jujutsu Kaisen takes the lead, but One Piece isn't far behind with volume 108. Jujutsu Kaisen, Spy x Family and Frieren also have a strong presence on the bestseller list.
