In recent days, a debate has attracted the attention of the anime community on Reddit, with the question: “Is there any other anime that loses quality as quickly as Uzumaki?”. This discussion topic was born out of widespread disappointment with the anime adaptation of “Uzumaki: Spiral to Horror”, based on the iconic horror work by mangaka Junji Ito.
The main reason for the discussion is the strong contrast between episode 1 and episode 2 of the anime series.
One audience member summed up the situation by saying: “The first episode was like a gift from heaven, and then the second episode… you know what happened”.
It seems like the first episode's animation quality was faithful to the manga's art style and scariness, but dropped suddenly in the second episode, leaving many viewers surprised and disappointed.
While fans praised the first episode for its vivid atmosphere and detailed animation, the second episode was commented on for lacking the same level of detail and appearing amateurishly made.
“The second episode felt like a big step backwards”another commented. This person noted that the quality drop was so noticeable that it seemed like two completely different animation teams worked on each episode.
This Reddit debate not only reflects fan disappointment with the “Uzumaki” adaptation, but also raises the broader question of whether any other anime has had a similar drop in quality in the first few episodes Fairy?
Some anime users shared their experiences with other series that also left them feeling the animation quality plummeted after a promising start:
– That was also the case with the deceased Detective.
– I remember that this year the animation quality of the anime Whisper Me A Love Song was decreasing with each episode, due to production problems at YAL and CloudHearts. So much so that the last two episodes were delayed indefinitely.
– Ninja Kamui, I loved episodes 1 and 2, the rest were either mediocre or bad.
– Magia Record second season. The first few episodes were good, then the animation and pacing became uneven.
– The Promised Neverland season 2, started off well but then they removed the Goldy Pond arc, and from there the quality and content went down a spiral.
– Gundam Wing's quality seriously declines in the second half. It's not very obvious unless you binge and realize that there's a lot of recycled animation. Some battles are repeated frame by frame with only different music and background for about five consecutive episodes.
– Zom 100 went from extremely vibrant, colorful and passionate animation to fairly mediocre technical quality in just a few episodes.
– I have to mention Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse. It has a somewhat similar story to Uzumaki: the original director spent too much on the first 3 episodes, got demoted, and the rest of the movie looks terrible.
– Seven Deadly Sins too, what a pity.
– Wizard Barristers fails badly in the second half, if I remember correctly the last episode was mostly set pieces and previous clips pasted together.
– One Punch Man season 2 is a big drop compared to season 1.
