Open world games often promote freedom and exploration for players, and Baldur’s Gate 3 is no exception. Since its launch, this game has been highly appreciated thanks to its flexibility and liberality in gamers’ actions. Baldur’s Gate 3 is even so free that it allows players to kill NPCs – characters who will often play a certain role on their journey.
Not long ago, Larian Studios itself had a headache when a gamer boasted of defeating more than 300 NPCs in this game. Basically, this will create some dangers for players, when defeated NPCs can be in the main story line and prevent gamers from developing the plot. Many people may think that is the price to pay for excessive freedom and arbitrariness, but Larian Studios definitely doesn’t want that. Because in the end, the developer’s responsibility must always be towards pleasing the players.
Therefore, Larian Studios recently provided backup copies for certain NPCs to replace them if they accidentally fall at the hands of gamers. This was discovered by YouTuber Proxy Gate. Accordingly, normally, if the player defeats the goblin leaders, Zevlor – the leader of the imprisoned refugees – will hold a celebration party. But if by chance you defeat Zevlor before that time, another refugee named Asharak will take over Zevlor’s role. If you also defeat Asharak, there will be a third character named Cerys – who will not appear in the Grove, meaning he will never be defeated. Even if all the guests at the party are defeated, Larian Studios will also provide new replacement characters.
Of course, this will also lead to some conversations becoming inconsistent later in the game. However, we must also praise Larian Studios for always paying attention to the smallest things and preventing situations that perhaps no one thinks of.
