Spy x Family does a good job of creating a convincing world living under the threat of future war despite appearing calm in the peaceful present, but Apple Project is a lingering specter of a dark time in Ostania. The initiative is alluded to several times in the series and most famously involves the Forger family as a project that brought their dog Bond his powers. But in chapter #103, this idea is alluded to again, raising suspicions that Tatsuya Endo might be using them for a larger plot in Spy x Family, so Project Apple is a concept that fans will want to revisit.
Bond Forger is the most iconic and frequent beneficiary of the Apple Project's dark intentions. Their experiments give him the uncanny gift of precognition, as he can see hours into the future. However, Bond is not the only experiment serves as a reminder of the Forger family's dark secrets, so the series is sure to introduce more test subjects. In Spy x Family chapter #103, the latest alleged victim of Project Apple is Belle, an escaped Nordic seal who exhibits high levels of intelligence but also a fear of humans as Loid ponders whether the initiative is truly dead.
Project Apple was an Ostanian military animal experiment
An initiative that extends far beyond just dogs
First described in chapter #19 or episode #13 of the first season of the Spy x Family anime, Project Apple was “research conducted under the former government of Ostania” to create animals with high IQs for military purposes. The project was shut down and deemed a failure due to over-investment with little or no reward.at least officially, but as pointed out in chapter #103, some of the research facilities may not have been shut down. Many of these instances have occurred since Bond's experiences as a test subject for Project Apple appeared in Spy x Family.
Project Apple and Born Industries indicate that Ostania has many shadowy entities preparing illegal activities even when it appears peaceful.
This includes chapter #40, when Bond joins Loid on a mission against Born Industries, may have benefited from Apple's research to develop the truth serum in Spy x Family. Additionally, in chapter #78, when Loid's handler Sylvia appears with Aaron, one of the Apple Project dogs trained with Bond, there is a hint that their research team may still be active. If so, their latest escaped test subject, Belle, is a strong reminder of the immense potential of the Apple Project in Spy x Family.
The Apple Project Involves More Than Just Dogs in the Spy x Family
Belle the Seal indicates intended operations on land, air and sea.
As stated in the initial reveal, Project Apple deploys animals for various vague military purposes in Spy x Family, including fighting dogs and even birds like owls or eagles. This means there is the possibility of aerial or naval reconnaissance and surprise attacks, all carried out by non-human agents. It’s a sinister possibility that suggests that Ostania, or at least some extremist group, may be planning major actions soon. Like Bond and Aaron, Belle is a powerful reminder that these animals are trained against their will.and some experiments in the project may have brought psychic powers.
Belle the Seal is an implied test subject who appeared in chapter #103, showing signs of fear towards humans, possibly stemming from her experiences in captivity. While the new Ostanian regime has been hinted at shutting down the project, there are signs that Donovan Desmond may have had something to do with Project Apple in Spy x Family, and Belle may be the latest lead in Loid and Sylvia's investigation. This, along with fan theories about Anya's connection to Project Apple, has led to Spy x Family Readers look forward to an exciting new development in the series.
