The second English subtitled trailer of “Godzilla Minus One,” directed by Takashi Yamazaki and part of the popular Godzilla franchise, was recently released on the official YouTube channel.
The film’s highly anticipated debut in Japan is on Friday, November 3, 2023, coinciding with “Godzilla Day,” commemorating the nationwide release of the original Godzilla film on November 3, 1954. Worthwhile Note that it also concludes this year’s Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF).

Set to open in US theaters on December 1, the film’s premise is described on TIFF’s website as a dire scenario in the series’ 70-year history. Post-war Japan fell into a state of utter devastation, with the appearance of Godzilla pushing the country into unprecedented adversity.
The central question is how Japan, facing its most catastrophic crisis, will rise up to confront this terrible threat with whom. Kamiki Ryunosuke takes on the lead role of Kōichi Shikishima, with Minami Hamabe playing the heroine Noriko Ōishi. Notably, both lead the cast of NHK’s ongoing weekday morning series, Ranman. The cast also includes talents such as Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Andō and Kuranosuke Sasaki.
Takashi Yamazaki, the film’s director, screenwriter and visual effects specialist, has had a diverse career, having directed live-action hits such as “Always: Sunset on Third Street,” “Returner” and “Parasyte”, besides CGI projects like “Stand By Me Doremon”.
TOHO’s last live-action installment in the iconic franchise was Hideaki Anno’s “Shin Godzilla” in 2016, which grossed an impressive 8.2 billion yen ($75.6 million). It marked a triumphant return after a 12-year hiatus since 2004’s “Godzilla: Final Wars.” Funimation released the film in North American theaters in October 2016.

The exciting news is that the film will have a sequel titled “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” scheduled to hit theaters on April 12, 2024, with concurrent IMAX screenings on opening day. Legendary Entertainment’s “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” series is also scheduled to premiere globally on the Apple TV+ streaming service on November 17.
