Kenshi Yonezu’s successful 2022 hit single “KICK BACK” received gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America. The song was used as the opening theme for the television anime series Chainsaw Man.
This is the first and only time a song written and performed in Japanese has been certified Gold by the RIAA, certifying that it has sold at least 500,000 copies (including records, tapes, and CDs).
“KICK BACK” began breaking records upon release, entering Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart and making Yonezu the first J-pop artist to appear on the chart.
Yonezu’s most recent release, “Spinning Globe,” was chosen as the official theme song for Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron. He also provided the official theme song for the new Final Fantasy XVI video game titled “Tsuki Wo Miteita – Moongazing”.
