Kyoto Animation announced on September 18, 2024 that they will premiere a special on their official YouTube channel, KyoaniChannel, at 9 p.m. JST on September 21.
The announcement follows a recent teaser from the studio that hinted at a new announcement in September. Now confirmed via their official X account, the show will give fans a first look at the studio's upcoming projects in 2025.
Voice actor Daisuke Ono, who has voiced many characters in Kyoto Animation's works, will narrate the show.
This potential new project comes after a challenging period for Kyoto Animation. On July 18, 2019, the studio faced a devastating arson attack on its Studio 1 building, which left 36 people dead and 33 others injured.
The incident was one of the bloodiest massacres in Japan's post-war history and sent shockwaves throughout the global anime community.
The suspected arsonist was arrested and, after recovering from his injuries sustained in the incident, was formally arrested. Following a trial, the arsonist was sentenced to death.
The studio prioritizes supporting the victims and their families, while focusing on rebuilding and continuing their creative endeavors.
Kyoto Animation's productions were initially put on hold following the attack, and the outbreak of the pandemic further delayed their projects.
As a fresh comeback after the two-year aftershock of the tragedy, the studio resumed its production activities with the release of the second season of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid.
