In just a few days we will officially witness the new adventures of Goku and the Z warriors in Dragon Ball Daima.
This work was written entirely by Akira Toriyama, although unfortunately he passed away earlier this year. While waiting for Daima to officially air, we will look back at 40 years of Dragon Ball's history, from the first publication of the manga. Through this, we will see five moments considered legendary in Dragon Ball history that were changed by author Akira Toriyama from the original intention.
Below are Akira Toriyama's changes to Dragon Ball:
Goku almost becomes a complete monkey
As part of the story based on Journey to the West, the original sketch of Goku was shown as a fully formed monkey boy. However, then the author decided to change and create a human-like Goku character but with an additional tail.
The Saiyan tail is omitted
Originally in the story, every Saiyan had a tail. It was considered a very important detail because it was a very unique physiological characteristic of the warrior race. But out of nowhere, it started to disappear and then reappear, until it was completely removed. The reason is that the illustrators felt uncomfortable drawing this element for each character and so they removed this, thinking it was not so necessary for the warriors.
Gohan is Goku's heir
Author Akira Toriyama once had a plan to finish off Goku, by letting him die in the battle with Cell. Then let Gohan replace his father as leader of the Z warrior group, as the strongest warrior in the universe. However, fans did not like it, it was not well received and thus Goku was brought back by Toriyama.
Make Goku grow up
The idea of showing an adult Goku, after the Piccolo Daimaku arc, only brought comfort to manga artists. They all found it difficult to draw muscles on childish Goku's small body so they made him grow up.
Super Saiyan 3 will actually be Super Saiyan 2
Gohan's display of power against Cell will not have a specific name. It's simply an awesome level of the original Super Saiyan transformation. So, the next transformation was supposed to be called Super Saiyan 2, but it ended up being called Super Saiyan 3.
