Marriage is a big deal for many people. Through religions and cultures, it has been considered one of the determining factors in a person's life. Even now, I still feel pressure from my family to get married and have children at some point because people sometimes view the unmarried life as inferior. I do not agree with that idea and think that everyone can live the way they want. But I love how this show uses a fake marriage to highlight the different things marriage means to different people.
Our main characters Takuya and Rika are both adults in my heart. As someone who is generally introverted and especially interested in a very cute dog to care for at home, I felt like I was watching a show where I was split in half. This show is set up with the classic dynamic of bringing together two characters who don't normally interact with each other and having a romance blossom. It's all very predictable and you could argue that the set-up is extremely forced as there would be less extreme ways to get out of a job that forces you to relocate. But I don't care if the situation is already done. It's handled thoughtfully; The relationship building is trusting and this dynamic rubs off on others. The show is accomplishing all of those goals and I'm here for it.
I loved the insight into these two's lives before we started any romantic progress. Ironically, they're setting out how they can be perfect for each other before they know it, since they're generally on the same wavelength. They also seem like people who will give each other space to celebrate their particular interests or happily engage in them. There are hints of the two of them potentially desiring more than they have. However, it will take them a while to realize this and I appreciate the slow approach.
The biggest attraction of the movie is how this fake marriage highlights what people think about marriage. Our main duo completely underestimated how stressful the rumors are at work. I liked the conversation with Takuya's father and how he saw the lack of a ceremony as a reflection of where they lived. I was looking forward to Takuya having to go home to explain the situation. Episode three was a highlight because I liked the princess's determination to live a happy life with her girlfriend. For some people, marriage is the be all and end all, but for others, it can be a trap or something that prevents you from living the life you want. This is probably one of the more solid shows this season. Although I had an idea of the end point, how we got there was the real fun.
