Black Myth: Wukong is off to a very impressive start.
Game Science's game sold over 10 million copies in its first three days, and at the moment, the project has sold over 20 million copies. The game also broke many records on Steam. And the fever brought by Black Myth: Wukong has also made Journey to the West – the inspiration for creating this game – “affected”.
For those who don't know, Black Myth: Wukong is inspired by the 16th century Chinese novel Journey to the West.
The novel is divided into four parts, detailing the story of Sun Wukong. From his time at Huaguo Mountain to his rampage in heaven and being trapped under the Five Elements Mountain before following Tang Sanzang to obtain scriptures. The ordeals that ensue are very similar to the recently released video game version. With the explosion of Black Myth: Wukong, the sales of the novel Journey to the West are seeing a marked increase, especially in Western countries.
According to eBay data in the UK, US, Canada and Australia, from May 19 to August 18, in just three months, the novel Journey to the West only sold about 93 copies. However, in the 22 days since the game was released, about 122 copies of the novel Journey to the West were sold in the four regions mentioned above based on eBay data, an increase of 31% compared to the total sales in the previous three months.
So, for those who have never read or watched Journey to the West, experiencing Black Myth: Wukong and then coming back to learn about this novel will definitely bring quite interesting things, helping us understand more about the plot as well as find the connection between the novel and the game.
