Pictures of Studio Ghibli’s stunning visual collection Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind were released in early November.

These works were supervised by renowned sculptors Takayuki Takeya and Takashi Yamaguchi, with the prototypes below produced by Yukio Fujioka.
The clothes have incredible attention to detail, with the texture of the material giving it a realistic feel. Both features are approximately 150mm tall. Currently only available in Japan, you can buy them from the Kaiyodo store for around 12,100 yen (80 USD).
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is experiencing something of a resurgence, thanks in part to the recent release of Ghibli’s The Boy and the Heron. Even though Nausicaa was released before Ghibli was founded, it is still considered one of the studio’s works and one of its most beloved by fans. First released nearly 40 years ago in March 1984, written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Nausicaa most recently inspired a fan-made live-action adaptation of the film’s opening scenes, created by Brazilian director Chris Tex as a tribute to the film.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind initially had difficulty getting an international release. Dubbed by Manson International as intended for a global audience, this cut was criticized for being overly edited, angering Miyazaki. Walt Disney Pictures later retitled the film in 2005, which was successively re-released on DVD, Blu-ray, and eventually streaming.
GKIDS released Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind on Blu-ray in 2017 and describes the film as follows: “A thousand years after the Seven Days of Fire destroyed civilization, warring factions of humanity live Survive in a world ravaged by atmospheric toxins and infested with giant creatures. The peaceful Valley of the Winds nestles on the edge of the Poison Forest and is led by the brave Princess Nausicaä, whose love of all living things puts her in terrible danger as she fights to restore balance between humans and nature. Voices of Alison Lohman, Uma Thurman, Patrick Stewart, Edward James Olmos and Shia LaBeouf.”
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is now streaming on Max.
