The Witch Hat Factory is based on the fantasy manga by Kamome Shirahama (you can watch our interview with her here), which Kodansha USA describes as:
In a world where people take magical things like magic and dragons for granted, Coco is a girl with a simple dream: she wants to be a witch. But everyone knows that wizards are born, not made, and Coco was not born with a gift for magic. Resigned to her life without magic, Coco is about to give up on her dream of becoming a witch… until the day she meets Qifrey, a mysterious traveling mage. After secretly seeing Qifrey perform magic in a way she has never seen before, Coco soon learns that what everyone “knows” may not be true and discovers that her magical dream may not be as far-fetched as it seems…
The manga began in 2016 in Monthly Morning Two magazine and has 13 tankōbon volumes as of February 2024. A spin-off manga titled Tongari Boushi no Kitchen by Hiromi Sato started in 2019.
Crunchyroll has licensed the anime.
