In the One Piece universe, the Iron Giant has become the center of attention and people are extremely curious to know how Oda will develop this story. The Iron Giant first appeared at the beginning of Egghead Island, and since then, he's proven to be an important player in the plot.
Recently, more precisely in chapter 1111, we saw the Iron Giant awaken, ready to enter the climax of the Egghead story arc. But there's still a lot we don't know about him, mainly what his true mission is and why he was created.
How the Iron Giant caused a stir in Marijoa
Created during the Void Century, about 900 years ago, this Iron Giant rose again and has existed ever since. Even though he looks like a robot, he may have someone's soul inside, hence his human emotions. This was confirmed when the Iron Giant apologized to Joyboy as soon as he woke up.
But back in time, this giant would have fought alongside Joyboy against the 20 Kingdoms. After failure, it was most likely dismantled or lost somewhere. About 200 years ago, the Iron Giant appeared again, climbed the Red Line and came to greet the Celestial Dragons in Marijoa.
But before it could cause any more damage, it ran out of power and shut down. The World Government wanted to destroy it, but the scientists studying it managed to hide the giant, which eventually reached Egghead Island, where Dr. Vegapunk is currently conducting his experiments.
Vegapunk tried but failed to find a new power source for the iron giant. But Luffy's appearance in Egghead changed the game, and it looks like the Iron Giant will become extremely important from now on.
The Iron Giant awakens thanks to Gear 5 Luffy
The Iron Giant's moment of awakening came with Luffy's arrival on the island. When Luffy faced Kizaru, something in Luffy's heart awakened the giant, who finally opened his eyes after 200 years. Then, when Luffy activated Gear 5, the giant stood up again.
Now, Luffy decides to escape from Egghead with his companions, and that's when we see the Iron Giant walk through the flames. The first thing he did was apologize to Joyboy, showing that he had some special connection to the character.
Although it is a robot, Iron Giant is completely autonomous and has the ability to feel. There seems to be a special power linked to him, possibly even related to the Buccaneer race, which resembles Kuma in many ways.
What is the Iron Giant's mission?
The big question that many people are wondering right now is: “What is the mission of the Iron Giant?”. Everything indicates that he is an ally of Joy Boy, created by the people of the Ancient Kingdom. His first words after waking up were an apology to Joy Boy. Perhaps his mission is to help carry out the D. family's will or to help someone who will complete this mission. Joy Boy must be that person.
And then we have the story of 200 years ago, when the Iron Giant climbed the Red Line and seemingly intended to attack Marijoa. Maybe he wasn't trying to attack but was trying to get somewhere, like Bartholomew Kuma was doing something similar.
Now that the Iron Giant is back on his feet, thanks to Luffy's freeing drum, perhaps he can help the group escape Egghead. And who knows, we might even learn more about his history, his goals, and why he climbed the Red Line 200 years ago.
