For several decades, mass audiences have become very familiar with superhero movies, enchanting with eye-catching, epic fight scenes. They are characters built with a noble image, not afraid of danger to bring peace to the people. However, the definition of “anti-hero” is still quite vague for the majority of moviegoers. Anti-heroes are a group of people who stand on the boundary between good and evil, “half lean, half fat”, once struggling in the mire of crime or tragedy and then rising up as “fallen heroes”. The anti-hero film genre in recent years has attracted a large number of fans thanks to a story that is somewhat more attractive than the pure hero's motif of a knight saving civilians.
Venom, makes his big screen debut as the main villain in Spider-Man 3 (2007)has now opened up a different perspective on this space parasite monster. Having undergone a “moral reformation” process by Sony Pictures, the infamous space parasite monster now captures the public's hearts thanks to his naive and good-natured image when symbiotic with journalist Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy), “shoulder to shoulder” confronting other bloody villains. LIVE Venom: The Last Dance (Venom: Final Bet), fans will witness the end of a memorable, emotional, happy and sad journey between the “team” Eddie and Venom, and at the same time the “introduction” for Spider Man's eternal enemy “rightly and righteously” set foot in the MCU universe under the control of the Mouse family.
Dramatic action, easter eggs filling the screen
Continuing the unfinished events in part 2, Eddie and Venom are now wanted nationwide by the US government thanks to the “mess” the couple left behind after the fight with Carnage. Here, the film reveals the identity of Knull, a dangerous and brutal evil god who existed before the universe was born. Imprisoned on Klyntar by his own Symbiote children, Knull called on Xenophage, the natural enemy of the Symbiote race, to come to Earth to hunt down Venom.
Needless to say, Venom: The Last Dance entertained Marvel's “people” with a spectacular, eye-catching action feast. The chase scenes from the two factions, the US government and Xenophage, targeting the “situation couple” bring the ultimate excitement that the audience has been waiting for for 3 years. The film is pushed to its climax when the Symbiote brotherhood revealed in the trailer joins forces to fight the evil Xenophage. A plus point for Venom's third sequel when it paints a bloody but realistic reality in the battle of life and death, where death awaits to trap even the favorite characters.
The graphics and effects are all done perfectly, bringing extremely vivid footage, especially when the camera pans to Xenophage, even though it is known that it is all a product of CGI. Remote filming techniques were also implemented during the escape from Xenophage and Strickland's army, taking the audience on a dramatic, dramatic journey in the vast desert space. Notably, the production team also used an anti-gravity camera combined with an anti-shake handle, capturing every tentacle movement of the Symbiote fragment a few inches below the ground to a 2m7 tall Venom in “full armor” form. ”.
The first Easter egg and also the theme throughout the 107 minutes of the main Sony Pictures blockbuster Area 51 (Area 51). In fact, this is a secret military base in Nevada, USA, the focus of many rumors and conspiracy theories spread on social networks, related to UFOs, advanced military technology and even is the study of aliens. The US government only confirmed the existence of this area in 2013, but much information about activities inside is still kept secret.
Another interesting easter egg mentioned quickly is the masterpiece 2001: Space Odyssey by the genius Stanley Kubrick regarding the conspiracy theory about Neil Armstrongs billion dollar drama. On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrongs first steps on the Moon – America achieved one of the greatest records in human history. However, the Apollo 11 crew's landing on the Moon was quickly deemed a hoax, and this event was even called the “Great American Lie”. Countless speculations believe that the United States set up a film set to prevail in the space race last century. Of course, this is just a hypothesis, there is no confirmed evidence to prove that these one-sided statements are correct.
The funny element carries the film
Tom Hardy is a sexy male god that thousands of people love, famous for his action movies and breathtaking fights. For that reason, the character Eddie is not difficult for him because… it does not require much in terms of acting. Eddie is unkempt and disheveled, and the whole movie just revolves around a taciturn, bored look. Tom Hardy just needs to walk back and forth, chat with Venom a few words and just be handsome and he'll be fine.
The plus point is that the “chemistry” between the “unjust family” couple is extremely compatible and charming. The tosser, the other, both pushed each other, throwing a “basket” of dry humour while their facial expressions did not change at all, creating situations that made the audience laugh. Their connection does not just stop at a relationship of life and death, but also develops into a brotherly bond, in life and death.
The minus point is that Venom has a few scenes that are quite tense and forced, thought to be funny but actually painful. As a result, such jokes become more awkward and even cause shivers. Some superfluous characters were not needed in the film, such as Martin Moon's hippie family. Their enthusiasm and hospitality did not have any impact on the psychological development of Eddie and Venom, or created any outstanding turning points. Dr. Teddy Payne's flashback scene about the past is equally out of place, causing the end of the movie to have a broken climax.
The ending is predictable and incomplete
Initially, the after-credits scene in Venom: Let There Be Carnage shows Eddie and Venom teleporting to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Go to after-credits in Spider-Man: No Way Homethe two returned to the Sony universe, but accidentally left behind a small part of Venom in the MCU. Next Venom: The Last DanceVenom fragments were collected by soldier Strickland (Chiwetel Ejiofor) in the bar of Ted Lasso (Cristo Fernández), a character from the Mouse MCU. Why is the movie set in the SSU universe but this scene “turns sideways” to the MCU? Are these variations in a parallel universe or simply another “super huge” lump? For most fans, this detail is illogical and impossible, causing chaos in the timeline and multiverse.
Another absurd point is when Venom explains to Eddie about the dangers of the Xenophage species, and the fact that Venom cannot transform 100% to avoid disaster. Yet, the slimy parasitic guy did not hesitate to turn on “full armor” mode to… dance, “adrift” to the music, “unchanging mind in the midst of ever-changing life” as if Xenophage had never appeared.
However, the end of an emotional journey between Eddie and Venom was built and realized by the film production team too quickly and too quickly. Here, that beautiful, understanding, and close friendship is still a bright spot amidst the dark, chaotic scene, but not long after, the director immediately moved on to the plot twist that no one expected. As a result, one of the scenes that could have brought the most tears turned out to be monotonous, disjointed, and even laughable.
Scoring: 3/5
Even though we know that all fun will eventually come to an end, the end can be predicted but is difficult to avoid. Eddie and Venom's friendship became stronger through the moments of fighting until their last breath. Even though it's the last part Venom: The Last Dance is the key that opens up more opportunities for the SSU universe. The evil god Knull will certainly reappear and promises to bring darkness to Earth, paving the way for his conquest in the future. Not only that, the end of this famous brand could very well be the bridge between Disney and Sony Pictures. Will history repeat itself if the handshake between the two entertainment giants happens again like this? Spiderman: No Way Home?
Venom: The Last Dance It's not a bad movie because it is a pure entertainment film product, a gift of gratitude not only to a top brand that saved SSU in its dying state but also to the audience that has always Follow and support Venom. The cast's performance is not too excellent, but overall the film is still a neat project in terms of image and sound. It's just a pity that Kelly Marcel's script is still not tight and solid, cramming in too many details, leading to Venom: The Last Dance Still forced to put an end to this trilogy.
