「緑の蔓」 (Midori no Tsuru)
“Green Vines”
After the breakneck pace brought even more dizzying developments, you could say we were overdue a hiatus from Nameless Memories. Or at least this show's version. Indeed, it seems we are destined to rush towards the end of the season (for better or worse), but with major moves now looking unlikely, we could have more some of the information made me want to blog about it in the first place. Yes, I swear that's not overly optimistic at play.
Perhaps the best way to summarize this episode would be that the monster of the week meets the growing development of the Tinasha-Oscar relationship. Aside from the elder gods doing dirty tricks against magic users and Tinasha doomed to be responsible for freeing said gods, everything essentially becomes a fantasy version of the filler and Take some time to enjoy the scenery before the trip continues. Hell to Unnamed Memory's credits even benefit from doing so, with the banter and chemistry between Oscar and Tinasha enhanced simply by having time to focus on it for more than a few seconds. It's another indication of what this adaptation might have been like if given more time to perfect its offerings, and a further example of how damaging not doing so would be Which comes to what we are getting.
What is especially noteworthy, however, are the hints and foreshadowing of what is to come. Outside of that Tinasha reinforced her growing concern for Oscar by asking him to kill her causing her to go berserk (and then Oscar refused to do so to her pleasant surprise). ), there are also some eagle eye tidbits floating around, from the relationships between gods, magic and wizards/witches in this world to interesting conundrums more like the story of time-traveling villagers and the strange couple of a nomad and a widow. Suffice it to say (to avoid spoilers) all of this is related and has a notable influence on the season that Nameless Memory is preparing to introduce shortly, although it remains to be seen whether Can it improve on what came before?
I'd like to think this show will be a huge success, but there's something about being bitten twice shy, not to mention four episodes is plenty of time to step on a few scratches. We'll have to see how well this one can land.
