The Transformers franchise is celebrating its 40th anniversary in a big way, with a number of new figures that recolor existing toys in retro colors. Referencing other characters throughout the franchise's history, one of these toys represents one of Starscream's biggest transformations.
Via Hakabanogarou, The Transformers: Legacy “Super Starscream” revisits the previous figure in the line, showcasing the incarnation of the character from the Transformers: Armada animated series. Depicting his final form, the figure theoretically makes two characters in one. Along with other figures based on robot disguises from the series’ history, such as the dark version of Optimus Prime.

Takara's Newest Starscream Statue Represents Decepticon's Greatest Moment
Revealed at the Transformers 40th Anniversary Exhibition, a slew of new upcoming figures are now making their way to fans from Takara Tomy, the Japanese operator of the franchise. Including C-01S Missing Link Sentinel Prime, TL-EX Super Starscream, Nemesis Prime 40th Anniversary Ver. and TC-01 Throne Collection. This is a repaint of Missing Link Optimus Prime, Transformers: Legacy Armada Universe Starscream, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Optimus Prime and the throne that was packaged with the Transformers Studio Series 1986 Coronation Starscream. Of these figures, one that actually appeared in the Transformers anime is Super Starscream.
The original version of “Super Starscream”, also known as Powerlinx Starscream or Thundercracker, was the second Decepticon toy in the Transformers: Armada toy line, known as Transformers: Micron Densetsu in Japan. This repaint was the version of him after he and the other Transformers were exposed to a wave of energy, making them more powerful than ever. In Starscream's case, his new blue color scheme resembles Seeker Thundercracker, who is usually a blue repaint of Starscream. It was also in this form that he eventually stood up to Megatron/Galvatron and sacrificed himself against Unicron. Like the Legacy repaint of the original toy, “Super Starscream” transformed into a jet and had both an Energon Sword and a simplified version of the Star Saber for use in robot mode. Available at the 40th Anniversary Show, it is currently unknown whether this or other versions will be sold elsewhere.

A reimagined version of a little-known Autobot from the Transformers: Super-God Masterforce animated series is returning to shelves in the Transformers: Legacy line.
Transformers' Unicron trilogy features three versions of Starscream
Debuting in Transformers: Armada, the anime's version of Starscream from the Unicron trilogy is both similar and different from his Generation 1 counterpart. Still distrustful of Megatron, this version, specifically the Seeker version, fought in vain to gain the leader's approval. In Transformers: Energon, he was resurrected as a ghost, making him even more similar to G1 Starscream, and by the time of the Transformers: Cybertron series, he had finally become his familiar traitorous self and briefly gained the power of the planet. Transformers: Legacy also featured a new look for the Cybertron version of Starscream.
Missing Link Sentinel Prime is a repaint of Transformers: Missing Link Optimus Prime, modernizing the original toy for the iconic Autobot leader. In this case, the orange repaint is both an homage to the truck that was painted for Optimus Prime in Generations' The Transformers cartoon, and a nod to the color scheme for modern versions of Sentinel Prime. These are just a few of the figures being released for the 40th anniversary of Transformers, with Takara specifically having a number of fan-focused figures coming soon.
