The animated prequel lags behind Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice

Box Office Mojo reported Sunday that Transformers One, the new animated prequel to the Transformers franchise, earned $25 million in its opening weekend, ranking No. 2 at the U.S. box office.
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice maintained the No. 1 spot for the third consecutive week, with $26 million.
Initial projections put the film's opening weekend at $30-40 million. The film earned $3.36 million in preview screenings on Thursday.
The film cost $75 million to produce.
The film opened in the US on Friday after another delay. It was originally scheduled to open on July 19, before being delayed for the first time until September 13.
Transformers One focuses on the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron, and takes place on Cybertron, the shared homeworld of both the protagonist Autobots and the villainous Decepticons.

Steven Spielberg is executive producer on the animated film along with Brian Goldner, Brian Oliver, Bradley J. Fischer and Valerii An. Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley will direct the film. Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari (Ant-Man and the Wasp) are writing the script. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy, Michael Bay, Mark Vahradian and Aaron Dem are producing.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the first film in a planned trilogy for the live-action Transformers film series, opens in June 2023, delayed by nearly a year from its original June 2022 release date. The film was released in Japan in August 2023 under the title Transformers: Beast Kakusei.
