“Avatar: The Last Airbender” is a fan favorite thanks to its exciting fight sequences and well-developed characters. The show's unique world is filled with people who can control the four classic elements—earth, fire, water, and air. Each element has its own distinct style, and this series introduces some truly powerful benders. So who is the strongest character in “Avatar: The Last Airbender”?
With many of the strongest characters from “Avatar: The Last Airbender” appearing in Netflix's new live-action adaptation, now is the perfect time to revisit the captivating world of this popular anime.
Note: We will not include any avatars other than Aang. Let's face it, avatars would make up the majority of the list if we did that.
List of 10 most powerful Avatar (Animated) characters
10. Suki
Suki, a Kyoshi Warrior from Kyoshi Island, demonstrated impressive fighting skills using a traditional war fan and a katana.
Her leadership inspired her fellow warriors to aid the Avatar in his quest. She also teaches Sokka his fighting techniques.
Suki's quick learning was demonstrated when she piloted a Fire Nation airship without prior training. Although she is not a bender, her fighting prowess and leadership abilities make her a formidable character in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
9. Sokka
Sokka, unlike his sister Katara and friend Aang, does not have bending abilities. However, his strategic thinking and fighting skills make him a powerful warrior.
Trained by the Southern Water Tribe, Sokka mastered the use of boomerangs and learned swordsmanship from Master Piandao.
His tactical advice is vital to Team Avatar, proving that his strength lies in his intelligence and versatility in combat.
Although powerless, Sokka proved to be an important ally in the majority of battles, earning him a spot on this list.
8. Zuko
Zuko's firebending skills may not be as impressive as the rest of his family, but he is still a powerful bender. His character development and redemption arc add depth to his abilities.
Zuko's proficiency with greatswords complements his firebending, making him a well-rounded warrior. Despite his efforts to gain recognition, Zuko's growth and skills make him one of the strongest characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The only reason he is so far down the list is due to his lack of natural talent. Unlike his father or sister, he is somewhat mediocre when it comes to fire bending.
7. Katara
Katara's determination to master waterbending has made her a formidable bender. She can manipulate water in its various forms—ice, snow, and steam—giving it a tactical advantage in battle.
Furthermore, she is also one of the only characters on the show who can bloodbend, which makes her a deadly opponent.
Katara's self-taught skills and eventual mastery under Pakku's guidance made her a powerful waterbender. Her healing abilities and quick thinking in combat further enhance her strength.
6. Bumi
King Bumi of Omashu is one of the strongest earthbenders in the series. Despite his age, Bumi's physical strength and unique bending techniques, such as bending with just his head, make him a formidable opponent.
His genius and patience allowed him to single-handedly reclaim his city, demonstrating his strategic prowess and mastery of bending.
Although he can act a little crazy, he always has a plan in mind, which earns him the sixth spot on our list.
5. Toph
Toph Beifong, a blind earthbender, turned her disability into an advantage, sensing vibrations through the ground.
She invented metalbending, a significant advancement in bending techniques. Toph's ability to prevent an entire library from sinking into the ground highlights her special powers.
Her youth shows that her skills will only improve, making her one of the strongest characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
4. Azula
Azula, Zuko's younger sister, is a powerful firebender capable of creating blue flames and generating lightning. Her precision and control, the ability to bend with just two fingers, set her apart.
Azula's strategic and cunning mind allows her to carry out complex plans, such as the Ba Sing Se coup.
However, her mental deterioration has hindered her strength, but her raw power remains undeniable.
3. Iroh
Iroh, a beloved character, combines wisdom and strength. His extensive knowledge of firebending and other nations' techniques, including the creation of lightning, makes him one of the strongest benders.
Iroh's guidance and wisdom are as influential as his bending abilities, contributing significantly to the series' plot.
Even his allies feared him during his prime. However, he later became a more pacifist. So he never went into battle with the intention of killing.
2. Fire Lord Ozai
Fire Lord Ozai, a feared dictator, demonstrates his immense power in the series finale. His firebending skills and strategic mind make him a formidable villain.
Ozai's plan to conquer the world showcased his ambition and power, culminating in an epic battle with Aang that highlighted his exceptional talent for firebending.
As the main villain of the series, I'm sure he deserves to be number two on this list.
1. Avatar Aang
Avatar Aang, the main character of the series, holds the power of all four elements. He is the most loved character on the show. This is why his merchandise gets the most love in the Avatar The Last Airbender Store.
His quick and unique learning and training methods enhance his bending skills. Aang's most powerful abilities include energybending, which allows him to eliminate or impart bending, and the Avatar State, which draws on the knowledge and powers of previous Avatars.
These abilities make Aang the strongest character in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
