After a long wait for the Hunter X Hunter manga, Hisoka finally appears for the first time in this Succession Contest. Hisoka is one of the most beloved characters in Hunter x Hunter, and many fans have wondered why he was absent from such an exciting arc as Chimera Ant.
Now, author Togashi has provided the answer to that question in the latest chapter of the manga.
Arc Chimera Ant
Within the Hunter x Hunter fan community and among anime fans in general, the Chimera Ant arc is definitely one of the most praised and loved. This arc is loved by many fans, thanks to the interesting characters it develops or introduces, as well as the great plot and storytelling.
The Chimera Ant arc is a fairly long arc, starting from chapter 186 and lasting until chapter 318, more than 100 chapters long. In the anime, this arc was adapted into 60 episodes.
The most interesting part of this arc is definitely the Chimera Ants themselves. Born from Queen Ants that feed on many different creatures, including humans, and even those who know how to use Nen, Chimera ants are terrifying. This creature can take on a skilled Nen user, while high-level Chimera ants are nearly invincible, with only the strongest Nen users standing a chance against them.
The strongest Chimera Ant is the Ant King Meruem, by far the strongest creature seen in the series (except Ai). Even one of the best nen users in HxH, Isaac Netero, is not strong enough to take down Meruem.
Besides the Ant King, his royal guard consisting of Neferpitou, Shaiapouf and Menthuthuyoupi, are also quite strong in their own right. Each of them requires the strongest Nen users to take them down.
Hisoka's whereabouts during the Chimera Ant arc and afterward
One character that fans definitely missed in the Chimera Ant arc is none other than Hisoka. Many fans think that Hisoka would be excited to join a fight against powerful creatures like Chimera ants. However, he does not appear anywhere in this arc.
The mission against Chimera ants is a top secret mission, and only a few hunters are called to this mission. The Hunters for this mission were specifically chosen by Isaac Netero, and he obviously did not choose Hisoka. It's important to note that too many hunters “hunting” for ants can be a problem in this quest, as if they are defeated, Meruem can eat them and gain even more power.
However, despite the secret nature of this mission, it is not impossible for Hisoka to somehow fight a Chimera ant. As seen, some Phantom Troupes also fought some Chimera ants in Meteor City. Meaning, realistically speaking, Hisoka could have known about these ants and at least fought one if he was interested.
What Hisoka did in this arc was most likely going after Chrollo. However, as many people know, their fight will have to wait until a few arcs later.
After the Chimera Ant arc, Hisoka teamed up with Illumi in The 13th Chairman Election arc to pursue Killua and Alluka, who were trying to save Gon.
Of course, after this arc, Hisoka finally achieves his dream of fighting Chrollo with the hope of defeating the Phantom Troupe. The Phantom Troupe is currently tailing him on the Black Whale and Hisoka was finally discovered again in HxH chapter 405 after a long absence from the manga.
Why doesn't Hisoka join the fight against the Chimera ants?
With Hisoka's return in the HxH manga, Togashi finally revealed to fans the real reason why Hisoka did not join the fight against the powerful Chimera ants, especially when most people believed that he would be excited to fight someone as powerful as the Royal Guards, or even Meruem himself.
However, the truth about Hisoka is that he has his own preferences when it comes to what interests him and what doesn't. Fighting other creatures was not something he was interested in. Hisoka is not interested in the Chimera ants just because they are not really human, even though some of them do have some human DNA.
Togashi also revealed that Hisoka is not interested in fighting groups, which is why he is also not interested in Halkenburg and his abilities.
If Hisoka joins the Chimera ant arc, he will be more interested in fighting Isaac Netero or adult Gon, than Meruem or Pitou and this could cause a lot of trouble.
