In recent days, Thailand and many other Asian countries have suffered a record heat wave with temperatures reaching over 40 degrees Celsius. According to The Thaiger, Nakhon Sawan province in north central Thailand, especially Prayutha Chili district, in particular, has been severely damaged by drought and heat causing serious crop loss.
To overcome this situation, local people decided to hold a rain praying ceremony for the first time since 2014 on April 29. Immediately after the rain praying ceremony was held, especially the image of the palanquin procession placing a stuffed Doraemon cat in a cage and carrying it around the village, immediately received a lot of attention on social network X.
The stuffed image of Doraemon is carried in palanquin by villagers to pray for rain
It is known that traditional Thai customs believe that cats can bring rain to people. Therefore, when the land is dry, in the traditional rain praying ceremony, people must lock a black female cat in a cage and parade it through the streets. Then, the villagers would splash water on the cat and make it scared and scream crazy with the idea that the cat would attract the rain god's attention, helping rain to fall on the ceiling.
At present, although the custom of praying for rain is still preserved, people believe that forcing an innocent cat to endure being splashed with water to pray for rain is not advisable. Therefore, although cats play an important role in calling on the rain gods, from the perspective of animal protection, Thai people have considered using cat dolls instead since the 2015 Rain Festival.
Not only Doraemon, another white cat is also used by Thai people in the Rain Prayer Ceremony
After the photo of Doraemon praying for rain became viral on social networks, many users in Japan left humorous comments, saying that this event was unique and special.
“Even if Doremon doesn't have ears, it's still considered a cat.”
“I believe Doraemon will also be very happy.”
“The world has become better thanks to Doraemon!”
