Superhero anime coming soon SHY has received a new trailer revealing more details about the show, including its premiere date. Bukimi Miki’s manga is expected to be adapted by Eightbit and promises to bring a breath of fresh air to the superhero genre thanks to its female protagonist. SHY is expected to join the Fall 2023 anime lineup.
You can watch SHY’s latest trailer on the EMOTION Label Channel YouTube channel. In it, many scenes from the anime and voice actors are revealed, expanding on the cast that was first shown in the Crunchyroll trailer. With Eightbit’s sleek art, SHY seems poised to be a hit when it launches October 2, 2023, on Crunchyroll.
Shy’s greatest superhero struggle is against himself
SHY, as its title indicates, follows a superhero in battle with his own nerves rather than local threats. Yen Press, which is localizing the manga, described the premise:
Earth is on the brink of World War III as individuals with superpowers emerge from each country across the globe, ending the conflict and ushering in a new era of relative peace. Among those heroes, Japan is represented by a shy young girl known as “Shy”. She may spend more time worrying about her own shortcomings than fighting villains, but she will show the world that despite it all, she still has the heart of a hero!
While the first Crunchyroll trailer was more limited in its setting, the new video gets more attention by introducing the main villains that Shy will have to face. As reported by Anime News Network, Mutsumi Tamura, Miyuki Sawashiro and Rina Hidaka will appear in Shy as they take on the roles of Stigma, Tzveta and Kufufu respectively, joining Shino Shimoji, who plays the female lead. The trailer also revealed that the opening song will be “Shiny Girl” by MindaRyn. Finally, the studio revealed that the anime will premiere on October 2, right at the start of the Fall 2023 season.
The superhero genre may be hot in Japan, but it’s certainly nothing new. SHY will be joined by My Hero Academia, One-Punch Man, Tiger and Bunny, and even Netflix’s Super Crooks. However, what makes SHY stand out are the female protagonist’s flaws. Underdog superheroes are common, but even when Izuku is at his weakest, he still has an unshakable will common to shōnen protagonists. Meanwhile, Teru Momijiyama faces extreme timidity and stage fright, which really hinder her work as a hero. These characteristics make Shy a very human character that one can sympathize with.
SHY looks to be Eightbit’s next big gamble of the season. As Crunchyroll’s trailer boasts, the Weekly Shonen Champion series has sold one million copies since 2019, making it quite popular. Masaomi Ando, director of Astra Lost in Space and School-Live!, has also been chosen to handle Shy. Overall, Eightbit seems intent on making a good impression, and the trailer’s stylish visuals seem to promise that it will be worth a watch. Don’t miss the launch of SHY when this exciting new superhero anime series premieres on Crunchyroll on October 2, 2023.
