2024 continues to be the year of blooming for the Japanese anime genre. Just at the beginning of the year, many blockbuster products have been released and set many huge sales records. After Spy x Family Code: White and Solo Leveling, Haikyuu!!: Battle of the Garbage Dump (roughly translated: Haikyuu!! Battle of the Scrap Yard) is the next anime product that set a remarkable record right after its release.
Officially premiered on February 16 in the Japanese market, Haikyuu!!: Battle of the Gabage Dump earned a huge figure of 890 million yen (more than 145 billion VND). This achievement helps the film rank 4th on the list of highest-grossing Japanese films of all time on the first day, behind Demon Slayer: Endless Train (1,269 billion yen), One Piece Film: Red (1,232 billion yen) and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (1,072 billion yen).
Haikyuu!! (Vietnamese title: The Little Giant) is a comic and anime brand related to sports topics, specifically volleyball. Main character of Haikyuu!! is Hinata Shoyo – a middle school boy with a burning passion for volleyball but has a stunted body and no experience in playing soccer. He admires the low-level soccer genius “tiny giant” Karasuno. To pursue her dream, Hinata joined the school’s volleyball team and gradually developed, even entering Karasuno’s high school to “take after” her idol.
Hinata’s journey to becoming a volleyball player inspires a global audience. Haikyuu!! Launched in 2012 and has so far sold 60 million copies, reaching the top of the best-selling manga series of all time. This brand also “causes a fever” because of its handsome male characters, such as Hinata, Karasuno or the silver-haired male god Sugawara. “For every square meter, there’s a handsome guy” is a famous joke about movies and it’s true when the movie’s setting is often contained within a volleyball court.
Anime versions of Haikyuu!! It is also extremely loved and appreciated by the audience. Battle of the Scrap Yard is one of two cinematic projects that close the story, built from the final 110 chapters. Currently, fans are extremely looking forward to the movie “arriving” in Vietnamese theaters.
