The creator of the famous Pokemon game series – The Pokemon Company has finally released an official statement about Palworld, saying: “We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any violations of intellectual property rights related to Pokémon.”
While The Pokemon Company didn’t specifically mention Palworld by name, it’s clear the statement was in response to the incredible success the survival game is achieving (8 million copies sold in less than six days). Basically, Pals’ appearance is too similar to existing Pokemon.
“We have received many inquiries regarding another company’s game released in January 2024,” The Pokemon Company wrote. “We have not granted any rights to use the intellectual property or Pokémon assets in that game. We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any violations of intellectual property rights.” intellectual property related to Pokémon. Prior to this statement, Palworld developer Pocketpair claimed their game was more similar to games like Ark Survival Evolved and Vanaheim than Pokemon. Additionally, the team revealed that they have received multiple threats since the game launched on January 19.
In an interview with Automaton, Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe shared that the team had a clear legal review and took no action against the company for violations.
