There have been various reports that the film The Imaginary is directed by Studio Ponoc production that Netflix picked up in January will begin streaming on July 5.

The Imaginary had its theatrical premiere in Japan on December 15 and is expected to compete at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival as part of the official selection of feature films. The film is adapted from the 2014 novel by AF Harrold and directed by Yoshiyuki Momose (Ni no Kuni anime and Ghiblies director, Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom character designer), former Studio Ghibli employee who served as lead animator on titles such as Porco Rosso, Pom Poko and Whisper of the Heart.
