Dragon Ball fans are once again analyzing Yamcha and Bulma Brief’s controversial breakup after an old manga panel claiming one cheated on the other has resurfaced and gone viral.
On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), user @/Extralongdokkan shared a screenshot from Dragon Ball Chapter 335, first published in 1991, in which Future Trunks talks about relationships evil between his mother and Yamcha. “Yamcha is… Um, not always faithful,” Future Trunks tells Goku. “She got depressed and broke up with him forever.”

Longtime Dragon Ball fans know that Bulma and Yamcha were originally an item in the 1986 TV anime, in which the two were ironically searching for the Dragon Balls to help them find their significant other. . This relationship continued in the early episodes of Dragon Ball Z until the “Androids Saga” revealed that Bulma left Yamcha for Vegeta and became the mother of his child, Trunks. This was considered a shocking reveal by many fans considering the time Yamcha and Bulma were shipped together, not to mention the fact that she was romantically involved with a character who was primarily a villain in this point in the Dragon Ball timeline.
In an interview translated by Kanzenshuu, Yamcha’s Japanese voice actor Tōru Furuya shared his shock (and upset) about the end of Yamcha and Bulma’s relationship. “It was a shock,” Furuya said. “I often talk with Hiromi Tsuru-san, who plays Bulma; She and I both thought Bulma and Yamcha would end up together. And as for Vegeta, of all people! It was really a shock. So when I met [Akira] Toriyama-sensei, I complained, ‘Why does it have to be like this?!’ Then Toriyama-sensei said, ‘Come on; Yamcha is a fraud.’”

Akira Toriyama confirms Yamcha’s infidelity, but DBZ: Kakarot says otherwise
Although Toriyama confirmed Yamcha’s infidelity in a translated interview, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot paints a different picture. In the 2020 video game, Yamcha tells Goku that Bulma got it wrong after he saved a helpless woman from being robbed and has not spoken to him since. However, there are also scenes where Yamcha openly brags about dating multiple women, suggesting that Bulma’s suspicions may be correct after all.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will conclude the Dragon Ball Z anime storyline with an upcoming story, titled “Goku’s Next Journey.” The Dragon Ball anime and television series is now available to stream on Crunchyroll. Viz Media handles English distribution of the manga.
