Fall 2023 has arrived and with it comes a slew of great anime streaming. From sequels to popular series to all-new stories, this season brings fans plenty of old comforts and exciting new adventures. While tastes may vary, there are certain shows airing this fall that every anime fan should watch.
Of course, with the huge number of shows spread across multiple streaming services, it can be difficult for the average anime fan to keep up with everything that’s going on. This has become a problem as the anime industry has grown and has caused some fans to avoid watching currently airing shows altogether to focus on old classics. However, this would be a shame to do this season as some of the upcoming shows are extremely hyped and watching them when they debut could allow viewers to be a part of the excitement of community for each new episode. These are the best Fall 2023 shows to stream when they release.
10 Castlevania: Nocturne
While some fans may debate whether this show should be considered an anime or not, based on the art style and source material it should definitely be considered one. Despite this debate, Castlevania: Nocturne is still considered a great horror show perfect for October. While the show’s first season 4 wrapped up the adventures of the Belmonts and the vampires they hunt quite unique, more episodes are always welcome. Castlevania: Nocturne is now available to stream on Netflix.
9 Goblin Slayers Part 2
This anime is not for everyone as it has extremely graphic themes at times. But for fans of more brutal fantasy, Goblin Slayer Season 2 is a show that should be on their watchlist. Following the adventures of the titular goblin slayer as he and his team slay goblins, the show isn’t necessarily the deepest anime out there. But for fans who want to see some brutal revenge violence, Goblin Slayer will satisfy that itch. Goblin Slayer Season 2 is streaming on Crunchyroll with new episodes releasing every Friday.
8 Tokyo Avengers season 3
The time-traveling gang fighting show is back as Tokyo Revengers returns for its third season. This season will see Takemichi and his gang facing off against a mysterious new gang that is taking over their territory. For fans of the first two seasons, this will hopefully be a worthy continuation of the show, and for new viewers, this could be the perfect reason to start watching. Tokyo Revengers Season 3 releases new episodes every Tuesday on Hulu in the US and Disney Plus in the UK and Canada.
7 Dr. Stone: New World Part 2
The second half of Dr Stone’s new season will also air this fall, continuing Senkuu’s journey across the ocean to find the source of stone-purifying light. The science-based post-apocalyptic Shonen series is consistently fun and educational with no signs of getting any less fun in Season 3 Part 2. Anime fans looking for a unique story are inundated The fun of creativity and scientific discovery should check this one out. Dr. Stone: New World Season 2 begins streaming October 12 on Crunchyroll.
6 Medicine preparation diary
Unlike many other anime on this list, The Apothecary Diaries is not a sequel. This is also not an action film but instead focuses on a dramatic series of events in historical China involving a girl who worked as a pharmacist in the imperial court. While this might not appeal to everyone, the series’ trailer looks beautiful and the soundtrack was composed by Kevin Penkin of Made in Abyss fame. So, even though this movie isn’t the most hyped one on this list, it still might be a gorgeous hidden gem that anime fans should check out. Apothecary’s Diary begins streaming October 22 on Crunchyroll.
5 unlucky zombies
Undead Unluck is currently one of Shonen Jump’s most underrated mangas with an extremely unique power system that makes for some great and creative battles. If David Production’s upcoming anime adaptation can do justice to the manga, it will be a must-watch for Shonen fans looking for something new in the genre. The first few volumes may reflect the manga’s rough start, but if fans give it a chance, Undead Unluck will develop into a truly special story. Undead Unluck is streaming on Hulu with new episodes released every Saturday.
4 Excellence in the Dark Part 2
The hit isekai drama The Eminence in Shadow will return this fall for its second season. The show focuses on a high school student Cid who is reincarnated in another world and becomes a master manipulator from the shadows. The tricky thing is that he thinks he’s just making things up when it’s actually true. This is a must-watch for isekai fans, especially if it lives up to the high standards set by the first season. Eminence in Shadow is available to stream on HIDIVE with new episodes released every Wednesday.
3 Freeze: Beyond the final journey
Frieren: Beyond Journeys End is a calmer film than most of the other anime on this list, but this quietness is its greatest strength. The film follows a near-immortal elf named Frieren as she learns to connect with the humans around her. While the show has an overarching plot, it is largely episodic in nature, which may deter some fans from watching it. However, this structure gives the viewer time to learn more about Frieren’s character and thus enhances their adventure. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is available to stream on Crunchyroll with new episodes released every Friday.
2 Spies x Family Part 2
The Forger family is back ready to please the many Spy x Family fans who are eagerly awaiting season 2. Follows a “fake” family consisting of a spy, an assassin, a psychic and a clairvoyant dog, the film is largely just a slice of life – slice-of-life comedy with a spy flavor. This makes it incredibly wholesome, especially with her young daughter Anya present. Although it may not have as much action as other anime, Spy x Family is still worth watching as a relaxing anime. Spy x Family is streaming on Crunchyroll with new episodes released every Saturday.
1 Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 could technically be considered a summer anime but since it will release episodes throughout the fall it still makes this list. At first glance, Jujutsu Kaisen appears to be a standard Shonen battle after war between sorcerers and terrifying curses. However, the Shibuya Incident arc completely changed the status quo of the series in all the best ways. This fall, fans have the chance to see live what could be considered one of the best Shonen arcs in history as it unfolds. That’s why Jujutsu Kaisen is a must-see for any anime fan. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is streaming on Crunchyroll with new episodes releasing every Thursday.
All of these shows make Fall 2023 a very exciting time for anime fans. This doesn’t even take into account any shows that might be surprisingly groundbreaking once they start airing. But even without those unexpected hits, the fall 2023 anime lineup still has plenty of incredible shows for fans of all genres to stream.
