Kaoru Nagase, a female office worker who was supposed to visit friends at an izakaya bar, is about to collapse from overwork. Not a good start for the anime adaptation of FUNA’s light novel.
Moments later, Kaoru-san goes to the afterlife, where an angel apologizes for doing something stupid…
…like accidentally cutting Nagase’s soul in half when the angel was trying to stop the distortions from leaking into the real world.
Well, it looks like none of the Truck-kuns involved in Kaoru’s affairs died when it was time to begin her journey in the fantasy world.
But first, Kaoru-san will have to say goodbye to her family as she sets out on a journey. Surprisingly, Nagase’s family was quite accepting of Kaoru’s decision.
On the other hand, there are Kaoru’s friends who don’t understand her death very well. But you know, they will get better soon as Kaoru says goodbye to her loved ones.
Now, it’s time for Kaoru to meet Celestine, the goddess where she will bestow some cheat abilities that will help her survive in the fantasy world. What are Kaoru’s abilities?
Well, she can create potions. Not just medicine, but any medicine like strengthening and restoring stamina will help Kaoru survive.
So I have to say that FUNA created a character that has something very worldly about it. Sure, with Mile and her “average” abilities, as well as Mitsuha Yamano’s ability to travel between worlds, Kaoru’s ability to make potions is just average.
But let’s test her abilities when someone is seriously injured. Without a healer, this adventurer will die soon.
Until Kaoru volunteers to help the injured adventurer. All she needs is a bottle of wine and a potion to heal the scar on his stomach.
As for the wine bottle, Kaoru will pour it on the wound to disinfect it. As for the potion, Kaoru instructed one of the companions to apply it through his mouth.
So, it seems the adventurer’s companion applied one of Kaoru’s potions through oral transmission and his wound healed completely.
And strangely, the adventurer escaped death thanks to Kaoru. Although trivial, Kaoru’s medicine making ability is really useful!
Unfortunately, this attracts some scummy nobles who want to exploit Kaoru like Baron Renié. Going out with this guy is dangerous because Kaoru wants to be free rather than be a slave.
So she hatches an escape plan in which Kaoru kidnaps one of the maids. Once again, wearing a maid uniform is not enough.
So Kaoru decided to create a medicine that could change his appearance. You know, I wish her transformation would have been more complex.
But thanks to Kaoru’s potion and a little help from one of Baron Renié’s maids, she gets past the guards and escapes.
And as for Baron Renié, not only did he lose his precious golden goose, but his entire fortune was stolen because Kaoru had another corrupted ability: the Hammerspace Archive.
I have no words to describe Kaoru’s power as she can make medicine and store items from another dimension. In my opinion, that’s really crazy!
Anyway, let’s end this first episode where a group of nobles meet a girl sleeping in the forest.
And from the looks of it, someone decided to put up a luxurious bed instead of sleeping on the grass. Could this person be Kaoru? We’ll find out next time!
Like I said, I didn’t expect anything great from Potion-danomi de Ikinobimasu! After all, this was written by FUNA, who likes to create silly yet entertaining isekai stories.
