Spy×Family 27
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis
Bond the dog has a premonition-fantasy that the power will go out and Yor will hand him over to the scientist who originally studied him, where he will die. In fact, Yor apologized for not having food for the dog but decided to make something for him. Bond imagines this is the cause of his death. The only way for him to escape this future is to find Loid (Twilight), who is at work. So Bond escapes from home to find him.
After searching all day, Bond finds Twilight on a mission at the facility that tested Bond. Twilight decides to allow Bond to stay after the dog finds a better way in. The two complete the mission without much problem, thanks to Bond’s intuition. Later, Loid takes Bond to the store to buy things for Bond’s dinner. Now Bond sees a happy ending to his day.
At Eden, DaKarenn wakes up late on her day off and gets into trouble. His henchmen friends Emile and Ewen decide to spend the day with DaKarenn by intentionally getting into trouble. Housemaster Henderson observes this and asks fellow teacher, Mr. Green, to take the boys on a field trip. The official naval officer put them in a canoe and quickly rowed them downstream to a lake, where the boys took a dip. He told them to collect wood for a fire and taught them how to make fishing rods and fish.
That night by the fire, the boys enjoyed the fruits of their labor. DaKarenn worries that he’s wasting his time doing this and not studying. Green reminded him that sometimes you need to rest. To that end, he took them to a special area of the lake where the stars reflected on the water. Seeing this, DaKarenn finally relaxed and even laughed.
Thinking/Evaluating
Some light, soft content Spy×Family 27. But it works for some characters.
Modify source documents
Story about Spy×Family 27 comes from chapters 40 and 39 of the source manga. I’m not sure why the anime decided to flip the stories, but since they’re solo chapters, with only a few characters in action, it doesn’t matter. Other than that, the only notable changes are some small, isolated moments in the manga. Since that has to be done in time and the padding doesn’t change at all, it’s not a problem for me.
Bond’s Tale
In the manga, Bond’s story is fine. In Spy×Family 27, I felt like the story struggled because they needed to shorten the time. So, while I understand why the anime team added this padding, it makes the pacing slow.
The other problem with the Bond story is that it is one of plot convenience. In such a large city, the chances of Bond finding Twilight are very small. And yes, the anime depicts Bond’s search slowly. But he found Twilight. Furthermore, Twilight’s mission is to go to the place where Bond is tested. Not only that, WISE doesn’t give Twilight much information about the mission, thus giving Twilight a reason to allow Bond to help her. So, although cute, everything happens according to the needs of the plot.
Finally, we see that Bond’s cognitive powers pervade his imagination. Yes, this is done for comedic purposes as there is no way Yor could kill Bond. But the dog believed this could happen so he imagined it was true. That is not precognition. When the story calls for humor, we see Bond imagining things. When the story needs Bond to be a hero, his powers are real. I’m not a big fan of this, although I understand why it was done.
DaKarenn’s Tale
Luckily DaKarenn’s story in Spy ×Family 27 gives a more natural feel. For a long time, DaKarenn always wanted to receive praise and attention from her father. To that end, becoming a Royal Scholar was the path he felt would achieve this goal. Thus, people understand DaKarenn’s fatigue and delay. He is willing to accept punishment to escape activities like going to the movies or similar activities. That way, he can study more.
I really liked this story because it really brought out DaKarenn’s character more. We see his weaknesses and strengths. Furthermore, it helped me see that even though Emile and Ewen are easygoing characters, there is still a sincere friendship between the three of them. It’s a pity that “DaKarenn-sama” has nothing in English to judge that it’s not unpleasant or wrong. I think in the manga Emile and Ewen call DaKarenn “Boss” to emphasize the henchman aspect. In the anime, it’s “Lord DaKarenn,” which is terrible because DaKarenn isn’t a noble and isn’t a titled character.
Final thoughts and conclusion
Final, Spy×Family 27 are several independent stories. Bond’s story dragged on at times but I really enjoyed DaKarenn’s story.
